HTC event March 1st to show newest phone: HTC Hima incoming?

HTC has been promising a blockbuster 2015, and the first opportunity for the company to wow us is Mobile World Congress in early March. Sure enough, HTC has fired out invites for a March 1st event, dubbed "Utopia in Progress", at which we're expecting to see the firm's new flagship smartphone. Scheduled roughly a year after the HTC One M8 debuted, according to the rumor machine the Barcelona launch is more than likely for the phone we've known as the "HTC Hima" from various benchmarking leaks.

HTC's invitation doesn't give us much to go on. Beyond the details of time and location, and the tagline, it's a simple space shot with some dotted gradations in HTC's familiar green.

A space-faring phone seems unlikely, but given HTC's focus on camera technology over the past few years, it could be a hint that the new flagship will again emphasize things like low-light performance. HTC first began emphasizing that with the UltraPixel camera on the original HTC One, then built an odd little standalone camera, the HTC Re.

One of the lingering complaints around UltraPixel, however, is that while its oversized pixels may do a great job at capturing shots in low-light conditions, the relatively scant number of them overall means image resolution is lower than the competition delivers.

While Samsung, LG, Sony, and others are offering Android phones with 13-megapixel cameras as a matter of course, HTC's UltraPixel range tops out at just 4-megapixels.

Not all pixels are created equal, of course, but HTC still needs to raise it's game if it wants 2015 to go its way. Android Community will be at the March 1st event - and covering all of Mobile World Congress 2015 - to see exactly what the company has in store for us.

Bust-A-Move Islands brings new stages, free on Android

Classic arcade games will always bring a burst of nostalgia for gamers, especially when you discover that the game you used to play on your classic game consoles or on your desktop has made its way to mobile. One of the more popular match-3 puzzle adventure games was Bust-A-Move, and the newest version of the game, Bust-A-Move Islands is free on Android and an update brings more stages for you to play on your mobile device.

The storyline for the game (hey, even match-3 games have back stories too!) remains the same: you need to find a cure for the evil spell that has turned our heroes Bubblun and Bobblun into dragons. Although why you'd want to not be a dragon is beyond us. Bust-A-Move Islands has over 200 different stages, and the latest update to the game has added even more levels to complete.

There are also now different kinds of bubbles, obstacles, and tournaments to add to the enjoyment of the game, including Super Bubble, Bubble Plus, and Bomb Bubble Boosts (try saying that 10x quickly). Even the graphics have been changed a bit, and it now looks sleeker compared to the more retro-looking original visuals of the game.

If you feel like boasting of your score to your friends on social media, the sharing modes are there of course, as most mobile games have. The global leaderboards are also updated daily so you'll see how you're faring compared to the rest of the world that plays the game. You can download Bust-A-Move from the Google Play Store for free, but there are in-app purchases available as well.

New leak gives more details about upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is expected to be unveiled in March during the MWC in Madrid, but that hasn't stopped people from trying to find out as much as they can about the upcoming new flagship from the Korean OEM. A Dutch site says that a user agent profile on the Samsung website has more or less confirmed what we know so far about the smartphone, while adding a few more tidbits to whet our appetite.

The profile reportedly highlights a certain model number SM-G920A, which will reportedly be the AT&T exclusive version of the Galaxy S6. It also reveals that the device's screen resolution will be 1440 x 2560 and that the "base64" might indicate that it will have a 64-bit operating system architecture. The user agent profile does not have any software navigation buttons indicated and so most likely it will have hardware buttons again. But early rumors indicate that Samsung will bring a new approach to the design of their new smartphone, so this is something people are looking forward to.

In terms of other specifications, previous rumors have said that it will have a quad HD display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and will run on a Snapdragon 810 chip. Another major change might be improvements to Samsung's much criticized TouchWiz UI, which aside from not looking good, is a huge memory hog. The current look might ruin the Material Design guidelines of Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Expect more news, speculations and rumors about the upcoming smartphone to trickle in as March comes a little closer. We'll find out if the all-metal casing or curved display rumors are true and what it will actually look like in reality.

Android 5.0.2 images arrive for 2013 Nexus 7 (WiFi), Nexus 10

Following last month's factory image release, Google is now bringing Android 5.0.2 to the rest of its older Nexus tablets. The maintenance update, which first appeared for the 2012 Nexus 7, is now available for the 2013 model, only for its WiFi variant, and the Nexus 10. And as before, there is no official changelog or announcement on what has been fixed in this silent Android release. Amusingly, the more recent Nexus 9 seems to have been left out, at least for now.

Google seems to have adopted a very staggered and piecemeal approach to Android releases for its Nexus line, rolling out updates as soon as they're available for some, while leaving others for another time. The Android 5.0.2 update itself was rather interesting. It first appeared last December and only for the 2012 Nexus 7 Wi-Fi model or "nakasi". This was the first Lollipop maintenance update that the tablet received, skipping over the Android 5.0.1 version that was made available to its other siblings.

Now its the turn of the 2013 Nexus 7 WiFi (razor) and the Nexus 10 (mantaray) to get the update. Without a changelog, we can only presume the usual bug fixes and whatnot, perhaps nothing earth-shattering or else we've heard about it by now.

Perhaps more interesting is where the update is not found. One would think that the Nexus 9, being the more recent tablet, would get it first, and yet it is curiously missing. None of the recent smartphones have also been updated yet. The most curious, and also the most tragic, of all is the fact that none of the mobile models of the Nexus 7, be it the 2012 or the 2013 model, have even tasted Android Lollipop, making us wonder what problems Google might have encountered for these two.

AppYourCar lets you view important apps (safely) while driving

If you're an extremely busy person that has to endure a long drive to the office or your meetings, chances are you are often impatiently waiting for the chance to check on your favorite or important apps on your smartphone. But of course you know that it's quite unsafe to do so (or we hope you understand that it is actually dangerous). An IndieGoGo project called AppYourCar tries to bring you the ability to do so, but in a (hopefully) safer way.

The entire system consists of just three things (four, if you count your smartphone): a wireless Bluetooth controller, a wireless dashboard mounting for your phone, and a mobile app. When you enter your car, all you need to do is attach the controller to your steering wheel, put your smartphone on the dashboard mounting, drive away and you'll be able to browse the apps that you need while navigating your way through traffic without taking your eyes off the road.

The Bluetooth controller should integrate with your steering wheel and you can control your smartphone through the special buttons as easily as you would actually be using your gadget. It has a thumb joystick that you can use to browse through your calendar, your Google Maps or even when having a voice or video call. You can also control the music playback on your phone through the buttons. Remember though that the point is not to read emails or reply to messages (unless you have voice controlled apps for that) since you're supposed to be driving and keeping your eye on the road.

The app itself is divided into three: Media, Navigation, and Communication and is easily customizable. They have only reached 72% of their fundraising goal so far, but there are still 8 days left to fund them if you believe in their product. Their estimated delivery date for backers is by June this year.
