OPPO reportedly to launch OPPO R1C on January 14

The Chinese manufacturers have been busy enough this January, with Xiaomi launching its budget phone the RedMi 2 last week and reportedly lining up a January 15 launch of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2. OPPO – legal disputes aside – looks set to be busy on January 14 as well, if the teasers be true, as they launch their new OPPO R1C 4G smart phone.

Let’s get to the meat of things then. The OPPO R1C will reportedly sport a 5-inch HD (720p) display powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor (big.LITTLE architecture, quad 1.7Ghz and quad 1.0Ghz), and supported by 2GB of RAM. Off the bat, this looks to be a contender in the mid-rage to high-end market, as the specs look robust enough to gain second or third looks.

The phone will have 16GB internal storage, expandable by 128GB via microSD. The phone will have a 13MP/5MP camera combo. We still do not know if the phone will be running Android KitKat or Lollipop out of the box. We assume that the phone will have LTE connectivity. But aside from the robust build, the photos leaked on the internet show a very classy if understated design that oozes quality rather than fancy stuff.

2014 was a big year for OPPO, with the launches of the OPPO N3 and R5. Would the R1C continue on the momentum the company has generated from a very profitable 2014? We’re going to be seeing this phone soon, so watch out.

McDonald’s in the UK to add 600 Qi wireless chargers to locations

McDonald's visitors in the UK will soon be able to wirelessly charge their smartphones while they hork down a large fry and Big Mac with the restaurants adding 600 Qi chargers to locations around the country. The announcement of the roll out of the wireless chargers came from Aircharge as part of an expanded partnership.

The 600 chargers will be added to 50 McDonald's restaurants in London and other cities around the UK. One location reports that the wireless chargers have been very popular with some visitors to the eatery waiting as long as 30 minutes to access the chargers.

The expanded rollout of the Qi chargers comes after the initial market test with Aircharge and McDonald's was a success. The Aircharge charger hotspots are designed to be robust enough to with stand spills and cleaning.

The chargers are water resistant and the Qi charging protocol means that many visitors already have devices that support the wireless chargers. Customers eating in the locations who don’t have a Qi supported phone can use a provided charging receiver.

How to enable Exoplayer in your mobile YouTube app

So someone found how to force the YouTube app to use Exoplayer, and provided a guide for doing it. Hooray! But what is Exoplayer? And why would I want it force enabled on my YouTube app? Answers here.

Exoplayer is an experimental video player hidden inside Google's YouTube app, and it basically loads videos much, much faster. Problem is, it is usually not made easily available to the average user like you and me. And so people found a way around that (they always do).

exoplayer

Before we give you the link, please remember a couple of things though. First, that this requires a rooted phone. So if you have not rooted your phone yet, this is not for you. If you want to get this feature, you will have to gain root access to your phone, and that means tweaking it a bit. Also, the Exoplayer is an experimental feature of the YouTube app, and so it will not have all the features of the main player. That said, it does load quite faster than the normal, and for that, you might want to try it out.

So on to the guide then. Please hit this link here to get to the guide on how to enable this feature. Remember, if you are unsure of the process, make a backup just in case everything hits the crapper. Enjoy!
