Moto 360 smartwatch leaks sporting gold and brown bands

It's not uncommon for the folks that control when products go online on the Amazon website to hit the go button a bit early. The result is a glimpse at a product that is coming soon before the product is supposed to be unveiled. This happened today when a pair of Moto 360 smartwatches turned up on Amazon sporting new band colors and were pulled shortly thereafter.

The good news is while they were on the Amazon website; images were grabbed so we can share them despite the products having been taken off the website. The images show the Moto 360 with a gold case attached to a gold link band.

The gold smartwatch was spied in thin and thick band versions with the former 18mm thick and the latter 23mm thick. The Moto 360 was also spied with a brushed silver case attached to a brown leather band.

The brown leather strap version was called Moto 360 Cognac and was listed with a price of $249.99. The gold versions were both listed at $299.99. Since the products are now gone from the Amazon site, we don't know exactly when they will be available to purchase.

Flipboard 3.0 aims for personalization with 30,000 topics

Flipboard has been around for a while now and the app was originally a place for people to read the latest news on a variety of topics. As the Flipboard community grew, some folks found it hard to find the news that really interested them because the categories were typically broad covering a wide subject like photography rather than individual topics inside photography.

That meant that if you were interested in something like composition, you had to wade through the entire photography category to find the stories that suited your interest. This is changing with Flipboard 3.0, it has added more than 30,000 new topics so you can find an entire topic with content that meets your needs without having to wade through so much extra you aren't interested in.

Flipboard 3.0 is intended to be more like a magazine with the app tweaked to look and feel more like a magazine to readers. Version 3.0 has full screen covers and new typography. A new navigation bar makes it easy to find the content you want to read.

Flipboard 3.0 also has a new summary for top headlines called The Daily Edition with headlines from a variety of categories like tech, news, sports, and entertainment. The Daily Edition will be available by 7:00am in the US, UK, Latin America, Brazil, and India. Those are the only areas where The Daily Edition is offered.

Huawei Ascend Mate2 will not get Android KitKat

In our excitement over Android 5.0, we might have been guilty of forgetting that there are those who still live in a Jelly Bean world. As if to douse cold water over enthusiasm, Huawei's US outfit has just announced that its previous flagship, the Ascend Mate2, will not even be getting Android 4.4 KitKat. That practically puts an end to the software life of a smartphone that was practically just launched in January this year.

To say that Hauwei's US fans are disappointed would be an understatement. The comments that followed the announcement is almost filled to the brim with vitriol, and, really, who can blame them? The Ascend Mate2 has been flagged as the company's first proper entry into the US market, and yet already it has committed a major blunder. The only good thing that one can take from this is that Huawei at least had the guts to actually tell their users that they are pulling the plug as far as Android updates go. Definitely the opposite course that many Android OEMs are taking lately.

Perhaps it makes matters worse that Huawei offers no reason why it won't put KitKat on the device. And it certainly can't be due to hardware, because the Ascend Mate2 is pretty much a standard phablet, with a gigantic 6.1-inch 720p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, a 13 megapixel rear camera, a 5 megapixel (selfie friendly) front shooter, and a bountiful 4,050 mAh battery.

The company blog does mention users can "expect superior hardware with the latest software going forward", implying they've decided to simply drop the ball in order to focus on, say, the Ascend Mate7, it's latest flagship. Focusing on your star device is understandable. But abandoning the previous one is definitely perplexing. Huawei will undoubtedly take a hit for this, if not financially, at least in credibility. It will most likely still provide some updates here and there as far as its own software is concerned, but for Android, this is the end of the line.

The Wolf Among Us now available on Google Play Store

If you enjoyed the award-winning Fables graphic novel series and you have an Android device, then this is a game you should definitely have on your smartphone or tablet. The Wolf Among Us is an offshoot from that series and this game was developed by the same guys that brought you The Walking Dead game. Even though this is a point and click game and not an action one, it is still very much for mature audiences due to the subject matter and the violence and gore within the game.

Bigby Wolf is not the Big Bad Wolf from your fairy tales. He is part human and full-time detective, investigating a series of brutal murders in Fabletown, which is where all the fairy tales (and nursery rhymes) have come to live, if you're still not familiar with the mythology of Fables. But even if you've not read the comic books, this game will still hook you in and might even lead you to read the books afterwards. You can control Bigby by clicking on items and navigating conversations as he interviews suspects, witnesses and would-be victims.

The visuals of the game are brilliant, as you would expect nothing less based on The Walking Dead games the developers had previously created. The game was actually previously available for Android but only through the Amazon Appstore, which some found to be mildly inconvenient.

The game has five chapters, with the first one available for free download from the Google Play Store. Chapters 2-5 can be purchased within the app itself. Again, this is not a game for children, as the mature take on fairy tale characters might end their childhood or traumatize them for life.

Sony Xperia Z3 now available for purchase through T-Mobile

While those who pre-ordered the Sony Xperia Z3 through T-Mobile are now finally enjoying their new smartphone, those of us who did not are now finally able to order online as the official purchasing period has begun. The new flagship device from Sony has been gaining good reviews and now you can get your own by signing up with the US carrier (if you aren't with them yet). While the device doesn't come anymore with the free digital copy of DriveClub (since it was only for pre-orders), the Xperia Z3 has so much going for itself.

The smartphone sports a 5.2-inch 1080p display and runs on a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor. It has a pretty impressive 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory, with space for more with its micro SD card slot. Mobile photography enthusiasts will have a field day with its 20.7MP main camera and the capability of taking videos with 4K resolution. Sony also has a whole slew of built-in photography and video apps to make your multi-media imagery all the more fun to use and share.

Even if you won't have DriveClub, Sony is throwing in a few freebies when you buy the Xperia Z3. You'll get 6 free movie downloads: 22 Jump Street, Amazing Spider-Man 2, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, Captain Phillips, 30th Year Anniversary Edition of Ghostbusters, and Moneyball. You'll be able to download the films until February 28, 2015. And with the front facing stereo speakers of your smartphone, watching the movies would be a nice experience.

You will be able to purchase the Xperia Z3 through T-Mobile for $0 down and just pay $26.25 per month for the next two years. But if you want to pay for it in its entirety, it will cost you its full retail price of $630.
