It looks like Sony Mobile is now aiming to solidify its market share, even in the midrange niche, with the release of the new Xperia M4 Aqua. The Xperia M4 Aqua is a new smartphone that is a midranger in price, but seems to carry Sony’s commitment to premium specs.
Sony’s new smartphone sports a 5.2-inch HD (720p) display, just there or thereabouts for midrange phones. We have no information as yet if Sony’s TRILUMINOS display technology will be used for this model. Underneath the hood though, you will find the first market version of the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset. This offers full octa-core and 64-bit performance with LTE connectivity.
Another selling point of the device is its promised 2-day operation on a single charge feature. We don’t have any information as to the battery capacity of the unit, but it will most likely be in the 4,000mAh range. With its patented minimalist approach to design and a svelte version of Android 5.0 Lollipop running in its interface, users can be assured that the device looks and feels like a premium one.
The pricing will be midrange, but it will be in the upper reaches of the midrange category – the device to be old at around USD$330. But with all the Sony features built in – like IP65/68 water and dust resistance, and a robust 13MP Sony camera module as its main camera (5MP front cam) – we think that most midrange buyers will at least give this smartphone a look. The phone will be release to international markets, and sadly, there is no news if this unit will be released in the US anytime soon.
