Crusaders Quest: 16-bit RPG lets you be a goddess-saving hero

If it's always been your secret dream to become a hero and rescue goddesses from peril, now is the time to let this out when you play this new 16-bit RPG for Android devices. Crusaders Quest is not about the Middle Ages campaign to win back the Holy Land but rather about you and your ragtag group who need to save the planet from the forces of evil.

An evil witch's curse has put the land in peril and it's only the powers of the goddesses, with the help of you and your 16-bit heroes, that can make things right. The game has over 200 heroes and 6 classes of them that you can collect and control as you try to save the goddesses from monsters roaming the land through solving real-time puzzle matches. Once you've trained the heroes in battle, you can send them in PVP battles to see if they can prove their mettle. You also need to help unlock and unleash the goddesses' special powers that will surely come in handy.

The game, despite being an RPG, is not really that complicated so it could actually be fun (if you don't like too complicated kinds of games). It is a puzzle combat game that lets you match skill blocks in order to defeat the enemy. The more matches you make, the better attack you'll have. And if you fill your power meter enough, you get such weapons and moves like Archer's Fire Rain or the Holy Hammer.

Crusaders Quest is free to download from the Google Play Store. But there are in-app purchases available so be sure you're disciplined enough to just buy stuff when you need to or if you're not, simply turn off the auto permissions so you won't be tempted.

Slime your way to victory with Ambition of the Slimes

How does it feel be a slime? You'll know when you play a round or two of this new simulation game called Ambition of the Slimes. This is like a classic simulation RPG complete with the pixelated graphics. Game was originally in Japanese because it was developed by Altairworks, a Japanese game application developer. It was recently translated to English so it's only now that the game is gaining more attention outside of the country.

The goal of the game is to finish off enemies by attacking them with slime. No, you don't need to accumulate slime within the game because you are the slime. The main hero, the slime, can take over the enemies to control them. For example, you can take over a mage to use magic. Take over a merchant and bribe your enemies. Should you want to defeat an archer, take over him and use a bow and arrow.

You can actually choose from among the different types of slime. Using various tactics, you can strategize on how you can slime your way to victory. Take over a more powerful enemy or teleport slime to win. You won't win easily though just by attacking the other camp. You need to think of effective tactics and strategies to succeed.

The pixelated graphics of the background and the characters make Ambition of the Slimes one cool retro game. The setting is a world where evil humans appeared. The seas and the skies were all polluted. Forests were all burned. Tyranny was reigning and inhabitants were expecting the end of days. But good thing the heroes learned to slime their way into the bodies of the enemies to take over them and do anything.

Ampere is a smartphone sleeve that can charge your device

If you're not too keen on having external battery packs attached to your smartphone or putting it in a bulky self-charging phone case but still need to have extra power for your device, then you have very limited options for now. But one Kickstarter project is aiming to change that by offering the "world's first smart wireless charging phone sleeve". Ampere means to "reinvent the mobile charging experience" for those who are constantly on the go or suffering from nomophobia (fear of being out of mobile contact).

All you need to do is slide your smartphone into your Ampere sleeve and it will automatically charge already, without needing realignment or wired connections. Or if you need to use your device while charging, you can just place it on top of the sleeve and it will still be getting power from Ampere. It has a 2,700 mAh battery which should be enough to keep your phone going for one more cycle.

It also comes with a mobile app that can be connected to your Ampere through Bluetooth Low Energy. It will be able to track the battery life of both your smartphone and Ampere in precise hours and minutes. You can recharge your Ampere through a fast charging dual USB port which means you can charge two devices at the same time. In terms of looks, Ampere isn't something you'll be ashamed of using, as it is made of 100% genuine cowhide leather and comes in four colors (blackest black, blushberry, brogue, midnight black) you can choose from.

However, this currently only works with Samsung Galaxy S4, S5, Note 3, Note 4, and Nexus 5 (at least for Android devices). And for Samsung devices, you need to place a receiver over the battery for it to work. Ampere has already met its goal on Kickstarter but you can still support it since it has 26 days left on its campaign. Estimated delivery is August 2015.

CyanogenMod Theme engine starts the trek towards CM12

Theme makers, on your mark, get set, and go start porting your masterpieces over to the new CyangeonMod theme engine. The popular Android custom ROM has just ported over its shiny new theme engine to Google's shiny new Android Lollipop version and now it is putting out a call to theme designers to do their part to port their designs over there as well. That said, given the large leap from Holo to Material Design, the transition presents a few stumbling blocks for theme designers to take note of.

CyanogenMod developed its new theme engine just recently in time for the launch of CyanogenMod 11S on the OnePlus One smartphone. Though relatively new, the theme engine all revolved around the Holo style that Android has been carrying since the early Jelly Bean days. But with the move to the new Material Design language, theme makers might find their designs not working properly on CyanogenMod 12, unless the particular app happens to be hardcoded to still use the Holo style.

In order to help with the porting work, CyanogenMod is offering a few things designers need to take note of. Aside from remembering that they might need to make a new theme specifically with CM12 in mind, they should also be aware that CM is now becoming more strict with regards to images. To be specific, the theme engine will no longer accept a broken .9.png image and will not install the theme properly. Theme makers must also set the targetSdkVersion to 21 in their Android package to let the system know that they are targeting Android 5.0.

On that note, theme makers should also be aware that at the moment, it's not possible to create a theme that works on both CM12 and CM11 yet, mostly because the CM11 theme engine wouldn't know what to do with theme elements specific to CM12. Fortunately, Google Play Store does allow you to distribute separate APKs for CM11 and CM12 and it will determine which version to provide depending on the version on the user's device. A patch might be forthcoming for the CM11 theme engine that resolve this on the CyanogenMod end, but that should not be expected to be the default behavior everywhere.

OnePlus 2 specifications tipped for next China-based flagship

Rumors are brewing on the hardware specifications of the new OnePlus 2 and what it what it may have to offer potential users. It’s predecessor, the OnePlus One, has thus far been the only mobile device the company has yet released. This original One was announced back in June of 2014 - the next device is expected to be revealed some time this year. This next device has high expectations - the first One found significant success following a relatively large viral campaign involving invites to buy. Following up on the previous robust machine - the successor device has high expectations to meet as there may be a potential market anticipating the release.

The device may be packing heavy heat as it's rumored to come equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 3300mAh battery. As reported, the OnePlus 2 may still be retaining the same 5.5-inch display screen seen on the current phone - saying that users complained. They mentioned to OnePlus about the screen being overly large to use as a one-handed device and may possibly be designing a smaller unit. Carl Pei, CEO of OnePlus, spoke with Android Headlines earlier this month at CES, saying that the company has agonized over the issue of screen size, changing their minds numerous times before finalizing their decision.

While the new screen may remain the same size as the OnePlus One, the resolution could see a dramatic boost up to 2K ( that's 2560 x 1440 ). The company may also be working on cutting down the overall physical body of the phone with an edge-to-edge display with ultra-thin bezels, so reports say.

Sadly enough, Pei revealed that the company’s “invite system” that requires customers to jump through loops and climb walls in order to win the right to buy the phone, is still going to be a course for the OnePlus 2.

Please keep in mind that all these specs have not been verified by any independent sources. It could just be our dreams wishing to become reality - and it does, the OnePlus 2 may be a very remarkable machine. Pei suggested that the launch of the OnePlus 2 could take place in either Q2 or Q3 of this year.
