Leaks reveal GPS-sporting Fitbit Surge to be released soon

Last week, we reported on leaked marketing images and specs of the two new Fitbit products set to be released in the next few months. There's apparently a third one in the offing, and this one might just be the flagship product for the fitness band. The Fitbit Surge seems like it's meant for "serious athletes" as it has features like a built-in GPS that would benefit those who want to better track all their fitness-related activities throughout the day.

The leaked material shows that Fitibit calls the Surge a "superwatch" and it is not just your average wearable device, as it has GPS-tracking that will benefit mostly the runners who need this feature. It will also reportedly have a PurePulse heart rate monitor that is also the draw for the Fitbit Charge HR, one of the new products that we discussed previously. Surge also will give users real-time data for when you're running, cycling, swimming or whatever workout you're doing. Data includes distance, pace, elevation, intensity, etc.

And even when you're not working out, the Fitbit Surge will also be tracking your other activities like how many steps you've taken, how many floors you've climbed, how many calories you've taken in and how much sleep you've gotten. It will even wake you up with a vibrating alarm. It will sync all the data gathered onto your Fitbit app, where you can also manually log in other info and earn you badges when you reach certain achievements. In keeping with its more than just your average fitness wearable, it will also be able to send you notifications for texts and calls from your partnered smartphone, and even control the music playback.

Fitbit Surge will reportedly come out in three colors: black, slate and tangerine. Of course with great features comes a greater price. The flagship device will reportedly retail for $249 which will definitely make it the most expensive Fitbit yet, as compared to the supposedly $220 of the Charge HR. So, unless you really plan on maximizing the features of this upcoming wearable, maybe you'd better stick to the more basic Fitbit if budget is your concern.

Verizon site CSS spills the beans on Motorola’s Droid Turbo

Verizon and Motorola’s chief secret keepers are probably pulling their hair out right now, wondering how is it that they would be able to keep secrets in the Internet age. I bet they’re also wondering what sort of people have the time to check out a website’s live CSS to smoke out an upcoming product. Our answer to them would be this – the sort of people who do exactly this.

A website’s CSS data is not really what you go to first when browsing, and in that sense, it’s not easily accessible. But if you want to see the data – which looks like this – anyone who knows how to access it will be able to, and in this sense, it’s really simple. So cue some people who have lots of time on their hands getting a sniff of the new Motorola Droid Turbo that Verizon will be launching soon.

Honestly speaking, these are some pretty tasty pics. We get a nice look at what the Droid Turbo will finally – and officially – look like. Couple this with the strong spec list that has been leaked for the Turbo and we should get a phone that will definitely hold its own against the flagship models from other manufacturers that were launched this year.

We have to remember that the Droid line of products is a joint venture between Verizon and Motorola, so it makes sense for them to launch a phone that it equally as good as, say the 2014 Moto X, or the Nexus 6 – all from Motorola. The launch date of this new Droid should not be too far away, with an announcement set for October 28.

Google’s Nexus Player now approved by FCC, no pre-orders yet

At first there was that awkward moment when the Nexus Player – a breakthrough product being the Google’s first set-top box – was hastily taken down from the Google Play Store because it was lacking FCC approval. Now the FCC has finally given its thumbs up for the product, but the Nexus Player is still unavailable for pre-orders at this point.

That moment will go down in Google’s history as one of the few tech blunders they’ve made – which was to put a product up for pre-order without the requisite FCC approval. The FCC basically works as a shield for consumers to check if the wireless frequencies used by the device will not be disruptive to any other device already out here in our homes. This was not a problem of the guys at the FCC being jerks, really. It was more of Google dropping the ball on that particular product.

But all is well that ends well, the FCC has given Google the go-ahead to finally bring the product to the marketplace. It should be noted that the Nexus Player is still, at this moment “out of inventory” at the Play Store. But we assume it won’t be too long until we’re able to pre-order to make it on time for the November 3 ship date.

The Nexus Player is priced at USD$99, and is – if you still haven’t figured it out – a round-shaped set top box which will run Android 5.0 Lollipop. It will sport a quad-core Intel Atom processor, bucking the current trend of Nexus devices coming out with NVIDIA or Qualcomm cores. Given this development, we should get to see it up close soon.

Try Some Android Lollipop Applications on Your Device

Android-5.0-Lollipop

Android 5.0 Lollipop has been officially announced and lucky users of Google Nexus 5 and Google Nexus 7 have a chance to try out the final developer preview. Google will soon release the full source code and begin the porting madness. If you crave some of the Android Lollipop experience on your older devices, XDA folks have prepared something for you already.

As you may already know, Android 5.0 introduced a new file structure. System applications are now placed in folders with odex file in an arm sub-folder. This makes them a little more difficult to use on older devices. Luckily XDA Recognized Contributor marcomarinho deodexed them and posted them as flashable archives, so you can taste some of the the sweet Lollipop goodies on your device.

The collection isn’t too big, but you can find applications like the Google Now Launcher, Play Store and Play Services. In addition to applications, there are wallpapers, fonts, boot animation and media files that can be used to add some freshness to your Jelly Bean or KitKat devices.

The applications have been provided thanks to XDA Recognized Contributor vomer who managed to extract the system image and posted its elements in this thread. If you are an owner of Nexus 5, you can flash the newest developer preview from there.

If you don’t have the aforementioned Nexus devices and would like to try applications from Lollipop, head over to Android Lollipop (5.0) – Google Apps [Launcher, Keyboard, Wallpapers] to get started.

Sony releases F2P Fat Princes: Piece of Cake on Android

Sony has just released its Fat Princess: Piece of Cake game for Android, a free-to-play match three game that you should be able to take to immediately. It’s a classic “match three” game in the tradition of “Bejeweled” so there is no learning curve here to speak of, just another cute and fun time waster on your Android device.

Fat Princess: Piece of Cake will have the user control a group of soldiers who are protecting the princess from an invading force. The game will ask the user to match swords, bombs, and shields in order to perform either attacks or to defend the princess against opponents. If you match hearts, a priest will appear and heal your troops.

Match gems and you upgrade the skills of your soldiers. The clincher, of course, is when you match cakes – it will be the princess who performs her combo slam attacks. There will be very enjoyable animations to go with your game, so we’re pretty sure you’ll enjoy this game.

The game is available as a free download at the Google Play Store – check the source link – with in-app purchases. Enjoy!
