Moto 360 square prototype unveiled in lab tour

One of the coolest things about the Moto 360 smartwatch is that it has a round face. Most all of the other devices on the market have square or rectangular designs making the round face of the Moto 360 a selling point.

That round face also makes the Moto 360 more like a traditional jewelry watch. However, that round design wasn't the first that Motorola tried for its wearable, it originally built several prototypes that all had a traditional square design. The square prototype of the smartwatch was unveiled when sister site SlashGear went on a tour of the Motorola design team facilities.

According to the design team, the square screen smartwatches worked perfectly, but they were deemed too much like a gadget, and not enough like a mainstream jewelry watch. Moto designers feared that the traditional square smartwatch design would relegate the Moto product to niche status.

Once the round face was chosen, several designs were tested including one that had external lugs for the band, which is typical of watch designs. The choice to go with internal lugs for the band made the watch fit better on smaller wrists. Be sure and check out the photo gallery for more images from behind the behind the scenes tour of the design factory. Be sure to check out our coverage of the Moto 360 and its Android Wear OS.

View Comedy Central shows on Android device through new app

If you’re a huge fan of old, current and new shows on Comedy Central, get ready to laugh your guts out as the cable channel now has an Android app. With hit and award-winning shows like The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report, having the channel on demand on your Android device of choice will definitely cure you of boredom (as if we really can afford to be bored on our gadgets nowadays).

Comedy Central has given birth to various shows like the filthy animated hit South Park (You killed Kenny!), new addictive favourite Drunk History (where various guest celebrities talk about history while, you guessed it, drunk), girl buddy cult comedy Broad City (which some call the real “Girls” as opposed to the HBO hit), etc. Through the app, you get to watch full episodes of classics and current shows when you log on to your TV provider. But there are shows like The Daily Show, Colbert Report, South Park and @midnight where you can watch the latest episodes without a TV provider.

As a bonus for its launch, you can watch the complete series of sketch comedy Key and Peele for free, but for a limited time only. Aside from TV shows, the app also has stand-up specials, archives of old shows and original digital shorts available. Current shows will have full episodes available the following day after airing.

For now, they don’t have Chromecast support yet, but they say they are working on it by chaining their tech guy to his desk (of course). The app is available for free on the Google Play Store, but only for US residents. Comedy-lovers outside of the region will have to be content with their own cable TVs to catch Comedy Central shows.

T-Mobile promises more for smartphone trade-ins

T-Mobile has announced that it will be guaranteeing that people who bring their old devices to its network for trade-in will get more money than any other carrier offers. T-Mobile is promising to beat the money that other major carriers like AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon offer.

T-Mobile says that it will be tracking the market for trade values every day. T-Mo will beat the trade in offer from any other national carrier every day. If a customer finds a better deal at another national carrier, T-Mobile will give them the trade difference and $50 on top of that.

The new trade-in offer will start on September 17 and will only be good for a limited time. Exactly when the trade-in guarantee expires is unannounced.

Customers have seven days to find a better trade-in price and to notify T-Mobile of the better price online. Devices have to be eligible for the trade-in program and a new device purchase, qualifying credit, and qualifying service plan is required.

Google Glass XE21.0 update adds Waze info for navigation

Google Glass owners have a new software update for the wearable device that should be available for download soon. The new update comes on the heels of the last update that landed only a few weeks ago bringing the Google Glass software to version XE20.1.

The new software update that has surfaced this week is XE21.0 and it brings a couple new features to the mix for users of Google Glass. The new software gets the ability to update flight information and sports scores more quickly. Google promises it will take only a few seconds to update the flight information.

Navigation on the Google Glass has also been updated to add in Waze information. With the Waze information added to the mix people using the wearable for getting from one place to another will be able to see Waze accident indicators to help avoid traffic.

The update has been announced, but Google says that it could take a week before the update is available to download. This seems like a minor update, but it's nice to see Google constantly working to improve Google Glass.
