Cyborg Unplug kicks devices that pose a privacy risk off your network

Cyborg Unplug is a device that is designed to plug into an outlet and police your local network at home or in the office. Cyborg Unplug is able to detect devices that pose a security risk and then removes those devices from the network. It's also able to break uploads and streams from these devices.

It can kick things off your network like Google Glass, Dropcam, drones, wireless spy microphones, and other surveillance devices that rely on network connectivity. The small device is designed to be used anywhere that your privacy might be violated by devices and has a power outlet.

Cyborg Unplug allows the owner of the device to select which types of devices they don’t want to be on a network near them. It sniffs the network for hardware signatures that go with those devices. The makers of the device say that it blocks these devices by sending a special stream of "de-authentication" packets to disconnect the device.

The searching and disconnecting of devices is performed automatically by the Cyborg Unplug and the user doesn’t need to interact with it for protection. The maker of the device says that it can be used to boot devices from any network, including those you don’t own and some of the features may not be legal in your area. Two Cyborg Unplug models will be offered priced between $50 and $100.

Motorola Turbo Charger adds 8 hours of battery life in only 15 min

There are two sides to the power coin that most smartphone users want. We all want more run time from the battery inside our smartphones, we also all want those batteries to recharge quickly as well. One without the other is less than ideal.

Motorola is showing off their new Motorola Turbo Charger that uses Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology to make the fastest charger ever, assuming the smartphone supports that technology. It's hard to get excited about a charger these days, but this one is exciting indeed. The charger promises to charge your compatible smartphone enough to get up to eight hours of additional runtime in only 15 minutes of charge time.

The latest Moto smartphones, like the Moto X, already have nice runtime, being able to charge them to near full capacity in only 15 minutes is impressive. The charger will work for other smartphones, but it may not charge them as fast.

The Motorola Turbo Charger provides 15 watts of charging power and Motorola says that charging speed is reduced as the battery charges. That means if your battery is dead it will charge faster than one that has half power already. An exact launch date isn't offered, Motorola says that the charger is coming soon and will sell for $34.99.

Firefox for Android Beta now lets you cast videos from websites

It’s not just downloaded videos or those that you get from subscription streaming services like Netflix that you sometimes want to show on a second screen, most likely a TV screen. Sometimes, you see something on your web browser that you think would be better seen on a larger screen. Firefox for Android Beta is now road-testing a new feature that will let you do just that, cast videos through your Roku or Chromecast onto another screen.

For example, you’re on your favourite sports site like ESPN or Fox Sports and you’d like to play that baseball highlights show streaming on their site. If it is a video that can be cast, there will be a “send to” indicator on the playback controls. When you click it, it will have a list of available streaming media devices, including hopefully, your Chromecast or Roku. If you have the latter, you need to add the Firefox channel to your channel list.

In Firefox’s URL bar, there will also appear a “send to” indicator, just in case you need reminding that it is possible. Once you’ve started casting and playing the video, you can also control whether you pause, play or close it through the Media Control Bar on the browser, located at the bottom of the screen of your smartphone or tablet. As long as the video is still playing, and even if you open a new tab while it is ongoing, the Media Control Bar will still be there.

As long as the video format on the website is supported by the video casting device you’re using, then Firefox assures that there will not be a problem. While some sites hide and customize the HTML5 video controls, meaning the “send to” indicator might not be easily seen, start playing the video on the site and the URL bar should show that indicator which will send your video through the device available. If you don’t have Firefox for Android Beta yet, you can get it for free through the Google Play Store.
