BlackBerry landing page prematurely declares 'BBM for Android and iPhone is here'

BlackBerry landing page prematurely declares 'BBM for Android and iPhone is here'

BlackBerry's messaging tool doesn't appear to be live for Android and iOS just yet, but if this new landing page is any indication, the service is just about ready to launch. A new dedicated page with the banner "BBM for Android and iPhone is here," appeared under the company's Canadian domain this morning, along with an inactive link to download BBM for Android and another for iPhone. Further down the page are references to additional features that won't be included at launch, such as BBM Voice, BBM Video and screen sharing features, which instead are expected this fall. The page has since been removed, but it may reappear any minute/hour/day now at the source link below.

[Thanks, Felix]

DirecTV for Android updated to 3.0, boasts voice commands and new UI

DNP DirecTV's Android app UI update

DirectTV's comprehensive app overhaul has finally jumped to a second operating system: Android. The refined UI debuted on the iPad earlier this month before migrating to the iPhone, adding a Watch Button to choose where content is played, a redesigned Info Page and more customization options in the guide. Now, these same improvements are available on Google's mobile OS, including DVR scheduling and voice search for programming. There's no word on when DirecTV for Tablets will get these features, but hopefully it doesn't take two years.

BLU Products launches trio of Dash smartphones starting at $49

BLU Products launches trio of new Dash smartphones starting at $49

Too thrifty to buy a $199 Nexus 4, or even a $99 Lumia 520? BLU Products has you covered with three new smartphones in its Dash range. The line starts with the Dash Jr., a 3.5-inch dual-SIM phone that costs just $49 unlocked -- cheap enough that we (almost) don't mind its single-core Spreadtrum processor, 2G-only data, 2-megapixel camera and Android 2.3. If you can afford to splurge, the Dash Music 4.0 ($99) and Dash 5.0 ($129) jump to their namesake larger screens, 3G data, dual-core MediaTek chips, higher-resolution cameras and Android 4.2. BLU expects all three Dash handsets to ship before the end of September, so penny pinchers won't have long to wait. Check out press shots of the Dash Music 4.0 and Dash 5.0 after the break.

Android 4.0, Customizes Your Phone to Your Taste

Android VP Hugo Barra reportedly leaves Google to join Chinese phone maker Xiaomi

Barely a month since he was flourishing Google's new Nexus 7 tablet, according to AllThingsD , Hugo Barra is apparently departing to join Xiaomi. Part of Google since March 2008, as the Vice President of product management for Android he's been a regular face to anyone that's watched Google I/O events and Nexus product launches over the past few years. Barra would follow Android creator Andy Rubin, who stepped away from the Android team three months earlier. If true, it'll be a huge score for Xiaomi, a company that goes from strength to strength in China, with smartphones that run on a heavily customized (and customizable) Android ROM. The company's also dabbled in smart TV boxes, which could make for a very familiar role for a former Googler.
