Remember the little drone that could? As in, could fly and also could take photos, despite it's extremely minuscule size? Yes, we're talking about the Extreme Micro-Drone 2.0 with Camera, which is just about ready to go into the next stage of its flight, which will be full retail phase. Yep, the little black drone is going back to its full $139 price tag, but it will still be giving it's last hurrah and offering last minute buyers that same sweet discount. At least until the day is done.

To recap the talents of this little drone, it can fly, flip, and even set itself straight, and it can do so both indoors and outdoors. It can fly a good 400 feet from its remote controller, thanks to the magic of 2.4GHz wireless technology. And, unlike other micro drones, it has a 640 pixel camera to record your mischief and adventures. All in a body that weighs just over an ounce!

This Extreme Micro-Drone normally costs $139 but, for the next few hours, it is down by 46 percent, down to only $74.99. And it ships not just in the US but to a lot of countries as well, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Finland, France, Hong Kong, India, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Android Wear gets new hands free gestures, phone free usage in update

You feel the hype for smartwatches and wrist-based wearables slowly plateauing, but Google is still very much committed to pushing for the maturity of Android Wear as a platform. As more and more people find it close to normal to access their notifications and messages from their wrist, Android Wear is looking to bring newer features to make this interaction more natural.

wristgesture_500

First up is a new “hands free” way of scrolling through your notification cards. The new action requires you to just flick your wrist outward to advance to the next notification, and flick inward to go back to a previous one. Pretty cool, eh?

Most smartwatch users are always in a bind if they leave their phone behind somewhere, because that means they will not be able to utilize the full functionality of their smartwatch. The new update will alleviate those fears somewhat. New features like offline music, GPS, and Wifi support now make it a bit easier on you if you leave your phone. As long as your phone is on a network – any network, whether cellular data or wifi – and your watch is connected to an available wifi network, the two devices will still be able to play music, show maps, get notifications and data. They will still be able to work together, even if they’re not on the same network.

Another cool feature is to be able to draw an emoji on your watch’s face and have the watch translate that to the closest emoji to send through your messaging apps like SMS, Hangouts, and others. This is especially useful in places where you can’t make a call. Let’s see if a lot of people will appreciate these new features on the Android Wear update the way we do. The update is scheduled to roll out first to the LG Watch Urbane, and then to other devices after that, so watch out.

Korean LG G4 early adopters get 64GB card, screen replacement

A few days before the April 28 unveiling, LG continues to give us hints by releasing video teasers. It's been confirmed that the newest LG flagship phone will have a genuine leather back based on the official invite. Before all these, we've seen several leaked photos, front and side views, and some information that it will be radically different and will probably be the last "G" phone.

In South Korea, LG will start offering the G4 from the day of launch until May 31. Those who will pre-order within this period will receive a free 64GB memory card and a one-time LCD screen replacement up to one year after the date of purchase. This promo will be available to everyone who buys the LG G4 regardless of the mobile carrier.

LG G4

We have yet to see the full list of specifications but there are numerous sources saying that the LG G4 will feature a 5.5-inch QHD display panel, a 16-megapixel main camera with f/1.8 lens by LG Innotek, optical image stabilization, dual flash, the recently launched UX 4.0, and a 3,000mAh battery. The leather back is no longer a rumor but we're not sure if it's removable or actually permanent. Offer is exclusive to South Korea only and on the three mobile carriers in the country: SK Telecom, KT, and of course, LG Uplus.

Special deals including an LG G Watch will also be offered. Early adopters will be delighted to know that the LG G4 will also be available in a multitude of colors and not the just the rustic brown version we've been seeing in photos lately.

Sony Xperia Z3 vs Sony Xperia Z4: Slight improvements might make the difference

We expect that most major OEMs release a flagship every year. And every time a consumer would buy the current flagship, there's always that unacknowledged fear that next year's new flagship might be better (as it should be right?) and so you might be "wasting" money buying the current one. The latest smartphone to present this dillema to its consumers is Sony which just announced its new flagship, the Xperia Z4, coming this summer. So should Xperia Z3 owners panic now and get ready to trade up?

In terms of the display, there isn't any difference between the two, with both sporting a 5.2-inch full HD (1080p) display. The Z4 is slightly thinner at 6.9mm compared to the Z3's 7.3mm, and lighter at 144g, but otherwise, size is the same at 146 x 72 inches. Now this might not seem much, but if you like slipping your smartphones in and out of thin pockets or bags, then the that less than 1mm difference is still big. Another upgrade to the new flagship is that it will be running on SD 810 octa-core, a huge improvement from the 801 octa-core Snapdragon of the Z3, so you can expect the new phone on the block to be faster. If you like taking pictures with your front-facing camera, then you'd probably want to change your current 2.2MP camera with the Z4's 5.1, but the main camera remains the same at 20.7MP.

compare-z3-z4

One major addition to the Xperia Z4 is that it has the LDAC audio coding technology that was developed by Sony themselves. It gives you high quality sound even when you're connecting using Bluetooth only. Normally, there is a loss of quality when you use the Bluetooth wireless connection, but LDAC gives you 3x the data transmitted compared to other wireless technology. If you like your mobile device sound quality to be as precise, crisp and high quality as if you were listening to high-end speakers, then you might consider shifting to the Xperia Z4 as it is the first Sony smartphone to be sporting this technology.

Both devices have 3GB RAM, and are both IP65/68 certified, meaning they are dust and water resistant, and can be submerged in water for 30 minutes, provided that the water is up to 4.92 feet only. Based on these initial impressions, Xperia Z3 owners need not worry too much about getting an upgrade, as the slight differences might not be enough . The price will also be one consideration, but it's still unknown for now how much the Xperia Z4 would cost. But if you're going for a thinner and lightweight smartphone, and if the sound quality is that crucial for where you use it often, then you might want to start saving up and upgrade to the new flagship when it comes out this summer.

Moovit transit app brings a lot of improvements for Version 4.0

A lot of navigation apps currently in the market serve mostly those who are driving or who are riding cabs (or Uber for that matter). But what about those that ride mass transit transportation? It seems that developers are slowly realizing we need help too, and one of those apps that can help you maneuver your way around your city's trains, buses, or walking areas is Moovit. Version 4.0 has brought a lot of changes, not just to the interface but even its functionality.

Moovit is actually now available in 55 countries, 600 cities, and has over 20 million rider users and can also be used in 36 languages. Whether you're a "seasoned" commuter or a tourist who would rather use public transit rather than rent cars or something, the new version has something to offer you to help make commuting quicker and sometimes, more bearable. There is now an omni search bar where you can just search for any place, address, or destination and it will give you the quickest way to get there. You can also look for any train or bus line in the city to see where it will go to and maybe check if it's along your route.

The new version also gives you Real-Time notifications so that you have a better idea of your ETA (which should also include traffic jams, delays, etc). It will also tell you where to disembark, depending on the location you searched for. And because Moovit also depends on user-generated information, Live User Reports is now easier to tell users about delays in schedule, incidents that have caused service interruption, and other tips to help fellow transit riders.

And if you suddenly lose connectivity while on the road, all your planned trips are actually saved offline so you can still access them. Moovit version 4.0 is available for download from the Google Play Store. It's absolutely free and there are no in-app purchases needed.

Sony Xperia Z4 reportedly for Japan only, different flagship for rest of the world

So Sony just recently announced its flagship for this year, the much awaited Sony Xperia Z4. The announcement was made via official press release, and the new flagship device is set to be launched this summer. All is right in the world again. But hold your horses! What is this that we’re hearing that the Xperia Z4 might only be offered in Japan, and that there will be a different Sony flagship device for the rest of the world? What is this?!?

Sources are now saying that the Japan announcement was largely due to the fact that the Xperia Z4 will be a “Japan only” thing. The company, at the very least, is said to have a different device for the international market, and that the official global announcement will be in the end of May.

Ok, so we’re ok with brands having different models for local and international markets. Samsung and LG does that. Sony can do that as well. But if this is totally NOT an Xperia Z4 and a different device altogether, how different will it be?

Z4_white

The practice we know of has always been borne out of different network components for different markets – as with what Samsung and LG does for their local Korean market models. Could this be the same thing? We hope so, and that it would still be an Xperia Z4. If it needs a name change, then it might not be the same gadget altogether. What do you guys think?
