Kazam Tornado 552L stuffs robust midrange specs in 5.5mm body

Kazam is probably one of the outfits that have made the MWC 2015 in Barcelona its breakout party. Over the last few days, they have announced a number of budget phones, with specs getting better as they go. Today they announced the Kazam Tornado 552L – but hold up, this is no budget phone. The slim form factor and the metal accents may just betray an actually very serviceable midrange phone from Kazam.

At 5.5mm, the Tornado 552L is not the slimmest phone there is, but it is certainly there or thereabouts. But it seems like anybody can make a slim phone today – what matters is what you can put under the hood. This new midrange phone from Kazam shows a beautiful 5.2-inch full HD (1080p) Super AMOLED display powered by a 64-bit octa-core MT6752 processor which makes turns at 1.7Ghz and ably supported by 2GB of RAM.

The phone will have dual SIM capability and will run Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box – quite a surprise from Kazam’s earlier KitKat offerings. The slim phone will have 16GB of internal storage, and users will have to make do with that and cloud solutions – there is no microSD expansion on this phone, but we understand that Kazam had to cut something out to keep costs down.

But everything else seems fine and dandy – down to the 13MP Sony IMX214 camera as the main shooter, the 4G LTE connectivity, and the serviceable 2,750mAh battery. The Kazam Tornado 552L will be available in European markets soon, but no pricing info as of yet. Rumors say they could go for over USD$300, but those are unconfirmed. If they are able to keep the price at USD$200 to USD$250, then they’ll be in a sweet spot.
