Alcatel OneTouch announces affordable Watch series

Are you looking forward to exploring what smartwatches are capable of doing for your digital life but get turned off by the price tags attached to these wearables? Alcatel OneTouch believes that there are a lot of you out there and want to create a new market segment: "the affordable smartwatch". Simply called Watch, the new device series from the Chinese OEM will deliver the basic functions of a smartwatch, but at a much lower price than its competitors.

On the surface, the Watch looks like any other round-faced time-telling device that you're used to. But of course it's more than its shape as it has the usual sensors, features, and controls of a smartwatch connected to your Android smartphone. It can monitor your daily activities including your heart rate, control the music playing on your phone, serve as a remote shutter button for your phone's camera, and of course, receive notifications from your specified apps from your smartphone.

As to how it will measure up to the more expensive smartwatches in the market, we still have no idea at this point in time. Based on the image they released, it looks a lot like the other round-faced Android Wear smartwatch in the market, the Moto 360. But it doesn't use the entire watch face but has an inner display (which looks to be fully functional) and is surrounded by a ring (which should be partly active as well).

Alcatel says they will be offering more choices and styles for the Watch. What they haven't revealed yet is how much this will cost, although they say it will be "at a fraction of the cost of competitors." Let's watch out for more details at CES 2015 where they will be unveiling this and their other products.
