While most smartwatches are out there trying to out-do each other with all the features and digital prowess they can pack in to that tiny package, a new entry into the market is taking a different tactic. The MB Chronowing wants to find those users that want both a watch and a notification hub that they can just look at in a glance.
Unlike most (if not all) smartwatches, this new one doesn't have any features for typing or activating voice commands. It simply wants to tell you whether you have new text messages, email and messages from other platforms. And yes, it also tells you the time. The digitally rendered clock looks just like a real timepiece and the monochrome LCD screen shows you the notifications just like the other wearables. While it is not as interactive as the others, the display isn't static so other things can also be done on it, like receiving stock quotes, weather info and display the messages as well.
If you're looking for a highly-functional kind of smartwatch, then this may not be the one for you, since it doesn't have as many functions as the others in the market. If you're looking for a fitness wearable, then this is also not for you as it doesn't have any of the health monitoring features we're used to seeing. But if what you're looking for is a timepiece that also tells you when your smartphone receives messages, then you can consider getting this smartwatch, just to be different as well.
The MB Chronowing works on both Android and iOS platforms and will be available for purchase by November 7 through the Gilt website. The cheapest one, which comes with Sapphire glass and leather, rubber and nylon straps will retail for $349. You can also upgrade to the alligator strap which will cost you $649.
