Details of the Sony Honami have been leaking for quite some time now. In fact, it seems that just about every aspect of the phone had been revealed at one point or another. And well, it looks like the leaks have concluded with the press release, which has recently been revealed by the folks at Xperia Blog . Simply put, Sony will be announcing the Xperia Z1 Honami tomorrow and the specs have all been confirmed with this latest leak.
We can say that majority of those leaks had been spot on. The Honami will indeed be launching with a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. The handset will be running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and powered by a quad-core 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974) processor with 2GB of RAM and a microSD card slot with support for cards up to 64GB in size. Other goodies here include IP55 and IP58 certifications to protect against dust and water as well as a variety of colors to include black, white and purple.
The handset will also have Adreno 330 graphics and a 3000 mAh battery. Shifting over to the camera and we have talk coming from Sony about how the rear-facing camera is the “world’s leading camera in a smartphone.” Sony goes on to mention how this has been proven by “independent testing” and means the Xperia Z1 has the “best overall image quality of all leading smartphones.” The rear-facing camera will be a 1/2.3-inch 20.7MP Exmor RS CMOS image sensor.
Further details here also include how the Xperia Z1 will be using Sony’s G Lens setup which means a 27mm wide angle and bright F2.0 aperture as well as the “BIONZ for mobile” image processing engine. Aside from the camera hardware, there will also be some software related goodies in terms of images. Some of these include Social Live which means live broadcasts to Facebook and Info-Eye which is described as being a “visual search function that provides related information on landmarks.”
Sony also took some time to detail the accessories — including the QX10 and QX100 “lens-style” cameras. There wasn’t much revealed on these, but Sony is describing them as being a camera that mounts on a smartphone and is operated through the display. Another Sony accessory included in this list is the Smartwatch 2, which they are saying is a second screen for the Zperia Z1.
Bottom line here, given the leak of the press release, it seems the only points still unknown are the carrier and pricing details. But with that in mind, Sony did mention that the Xperia Z1 would launch globally in September.
