Sony Xperia Z1 hands-on

Sony and their entire Xperia range has been impressive lately with new devices like the Ultra being added, and today we’re finally getting our first official and real look at the Xperia Z1. This device has leaked more times than we can count as the Honami, but now we have everything you need to know below. All the waterproof features are still here, only we now have a beautiful metal frame for a design. Check out our hands-on video below.

With a massive 20.7 megapixel camera on the rear, and a new brushed metal frame to replace the plastic and polycarbonate shell of previous Xperias, this could be their best one yet. All the reports were accurate, and we’re working with Qualcomm’s speedy Snapdragon 800 quad-core at 2.2 GHz along with 2GB of RAM, and the Z1 sports 16GB of internal storage and micro-SD support.

This is one beautiful phone and just awesome to hold. However we still have those usual Sony corners that aren’t the most friendly for a tight grip, but the phone just feels solid. The metal is a nice touch, as is the 20.7MP camera, yet it still is super sleek.

As you can see from our hands-on time above the 5-inch 1920 x 1080p full HD BRAVIA display is as crisp as ever, and the screen has never been a weak spot for Sony. We have the same stunning visuals here, and it rivals that of the Galaxy S4 and more. Then of course the Z1 is IP55 and IP58 certified. So can take a dip under water for up to 30 minutes and be good as new still. We love it.

One important thing here is the Exmor lens brought over from their big cameras. That 20.7 megapixel G-branded 1/2.3-inch sensor, paired with a 27mm wide angle, f/2.0 aperture lens, BIONZ processing sensor, and a number of different camera apps for things like burst photography makes it impressive. It can take 61 frames in two seconds. Crazy right?

There’s a massive 3,000 mAh battery under the hood, and of course the usual NFC technology will enable this device to work wonderfully with Sony’s new Lens Cameras. Running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean the Xperia Z1 was as fast as ever, and that quad-core keeps things plenty smooth. We’ll have more details soon, but this could be our favorite Xperia yet.
