Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch specs tip dual-core and 2MP camera

The reports and rumors surrounding Samsung‘s upcoming smartwatch have been coming in at a steady pace as of late. With multiple sources all claiming a device called the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch will be unveiled alongside the Galaxy Note III on September 4th at their Unpacked event. Today though some specs have leaked, and it sounds quite impressive.

We have no clue what Samsung is actually prepping, aside from some leaked patents that could still be years away. However, many believe their flexible AMOLED technology will finally be on display, and make the smartwatch actually pretty, fashionable, and usable. Take this all with a grain of Sammy salt though.

Today’s reports suggest a pretty mid-range device in terms of smartphone specs, but compared to most watches the Galaxy Gear could be the top dog if the rumor is true. SamMobile sources claim a 1.5 GHz dual-core Samsung Exynos 4212 processor and 1GB of RAM will power this Android device. The 1.67-inch AMOLED display will have a resolution of 320 x 320, but they mention they aren’t sure if it will be flexible. That means it might not be curved, but we’re hoping it is.

Of course we’ll have WiFi, Bluetooth, and NFC for Samsung Beam features, just to name a few. Then this leakster goes on to mention it will have a 2 megapixel camera on board. Not sure why one would need this when the GS4 and Galaxy Note III has a 13 megapixel camera, but we’ll take whatever rumors we can get.

It sounds a little too good to be true, but we’ll find out everything (good or bad) come September 4th live in Berlin, Germany.
