CounterSpy is nice combo of a platformer and a stealth game

Stealth games can either be really nice or real bummers – that said, they’re not everyone’s favorite dish. Fortunately, CounterSpy mixed in a little bit of platformer into their Cold War-themed action game to attract those who are not hardcore stealth game fanatics.

The Google Play Store really produces its own brand of games, and there are only a few successful stealth games ever in its recent history. CounterSpy is no epic stealth game in the mold of Metal Gear – rather it is a fun game that you can pick up and play without really getting into stealth all that much. Players of the game run around in Cold War-themed areas trying to make sure that no country will one-up the other in the ongoing war. We're sure that the nice artwork will catch your attention as well.

The “platformer” mode of the game sees your player in 2D as he moves across the screen, but then the game switches to 3D every so often, keeping things interesting for players. If you’ve ever played the endless running game called “Pitfall!” then you will know how this works. The game jumps to a 3D perspective when the main protagonist hides behind something, allowing players to shoot their enemies with skill. In this mode, it’s actually a modern version of “Duck Hunt”.

The game makes itself interesting enough for a USD$4.99 download via the Play Store (source link) and no in game purchases to speak of (yey!). The description says that they are on an initial sale price for the recent launch, so you might want to get this one soon – the price on the PS Mobile Store is USD$14.99 (The game traces its roots with the PlayStation platform). The game sounds like it could be fun, so tell us about it if you check it out.

Olloclip intros 4-in-1 Photo Lens for Galaxy S5

The Olloclip first became a household name as lens accessory for the iPhone. Different versions of the lens already came out. For a time, the iOS fans are the only ones enjoying the product but now, it's pretty much available for Android.

The Olloclip 4-in-1 Photo Lens for Android have just been introduced for the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5. The accessory can't be attached to most Android phones, only the aforementioned Galaxy S phones, at least, for now. The lenses attach quickly to the phone to offer wide-angle, a couple of macro optics (–10x and 15x), and fisheye lens views, taking your phone cam to a new level.

Who needs a heavy DSLR or a digicam with bulky lenses if you can use your trusty old Galaxy smartphone? The Olloclip for Android weighs less than an ounce you could hardly feel the added weight. Switching lens is easy: shift the desired lens over the phone camera. Olloclip actually built a new design exclusive for Android with a patented quick-change lens system that slides on and off.

As with the iOS version, the new 4-in-1 Olloclip for Android also works with all video and photo apps on the mobile platform. The accessory is made of aircraft grade anodized aluminium, multi-element optics, and advanced coated glass as described.

Founder and CEO of Olloclip Patrick O’Neill is proud about this new product. “We’re proud to offer a first-class photo lens solution to the millions of Samsung Galaxy Android users to explore new photographic possibilities and forms of artistic expression,” O’Neill said.

Olloclip's expansion to Android phones comes right after Sony's introduction of the QX30 and QX1 lens cameras . While the tools are totally in a different scale, they improve mobile photography on the platform. Sony's are obviously more expensive because they are real cameras. Meanwhile, the Olloclip lens accessory is just an attachment. The makers of Olloclip could have seen that window of opportunity to offer an inexpensive alternative with the 4-in-1 lens since they’ve been highly successful with the iOS version. Either way, Android mobile phone photography enthusiasts have more choices than ever.

Olloclip 4-in-1 Photo Lenses for Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S4 is now available for preorder. Price tag reads $69.99.

Verizon accepting pre-orders for Moto 360 with metal bands

If you’re one of those who can’t wait to have Motorola’s first Android Wear smartwatch with its metal bands before anyone else, then you better switch (or stay) on over to Verizon. The US carrier is now accepting pre-orders for the highly vaulted Moto 360 with metal straps, ahead of the estimated fall official release. The round smartwatch has been teasing us for the past months with various leaks and rumors, and its unveiling at the IFA 2014 has made it a must-have accessory for the tech savvy.

Motorola finally showed the public what the Moto 360 was all about and it has a 1.56-inch diameter LCD touchscreen with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It uses Bluetooth 4.0 to connect with any Android smartphone as long as it is running on 4.3 or higher. It has an IP67 water-resistant rating, a built-in pedometer and an optical heart rate monitor, which means it can be used while exercising or doing any physical activity.

The metal straps, available in black and silver, add class to the smartwatch and its round stainless steel case. The OEM said that this variant would be available for $299 and the straps can be bought separately for $79 at Best Buy outlets by fall this year. But Verizon is now already accepting pre-orders for the smartwatch with the metal straps, although you would have to wait a few more months to actually have it in your hands. Shipping will start later this year, in particular by November 11 and the Moto 360 costs $299.99.

If you don’t care to have the metal straps, the Moto 360 with its normal leather band is now available for purchase through the Google Play Store and the Motorola store. However, some have reported that it is already out of stock a mere 3 hours after it went on sale, and there is no news yet as to when they will be replenishing their online stores.

Wakie lets strangers wake you up through an app

One of the greatest struggles that face students and working people is waking up when you need to wake up, whether that’s early in the morning or in the middle of the night. Alarm clocks have been broken, the snooze button has been much abused, cellphones have been thrown across the room. An app that has been a hit in other regions, particularly Russia, has now come to the US and other countries, and it lets you wake up through a stranger’s “phone call”.

The Wakie app believes that we will find it more pleasant to wake up when random people call us up on our mobile phone, rather than rely on the ever-annoying built-in alarm clock app. You just need to sign up on the app through your mobile number, and depending on what is your need or purpose, you will be put into the Sleepyheads (those who need the alarm) or Wakies (those who will wake the Sleepyheads up). The app will then pair you with someone of the opposite gender and around your same age group who will be your wake-up call on your specified time.

Now we don’t know if there is a kind of heterosexual dating set-up going on here, but if you’re not at your best first thing when you wake up (who is, come to think of it?), don’t worry because you need to spend just 60 seconds on the call with your Wakie as it automatically cuts it off after that. Also, there isn’t much security issue here since your number and theirs will not be displayed on the app, just their face, name and age. Now it’s up to you if you want to further the conversation, but that happens outside the app already (they apparently just want to play matchmaker).

Now it might sound like a weird way to wake up and might not even work for some (especially those who constantly hit the snooze button), but if you feel like meeting people from around the world first thing in the morning, then you can download the app for free from the Google Play Store. The full version is available in the US, UK, Canada, Singapore and HongKong but for all other countries, you can just be the Wakies, and have a limited number of times being the Sleepyheads.

Facebook Messenger now lets you add text, doodles to photos

As people continue to either be dependent or annoyed with Facebook Messenger and its separate app from the main Facebook app, the social media giant will of course continue to add features to it to attempt to recapture the hearts of the fed-up users. The latest update to the Messenger app, which has now reached 500 million downloads (forcibly for some), now allows you to have more fun with the photos that you share with your friends.

If you’ve always wanted to put comments on the actual photos that you share in your messages with friends and loved ones, now you might become a bit happier with the Messenger app. You can now overlay text or scribble on the photos with your stylus before sending it to your contact or group messages. If you want to point out the detail on a dress in the picture or add a caption or doodle to that photo of a beautiful sunset, you can now do so without using a photo editor app, just your Facebook messenger.

When you tap the photo icon while in the messenger, select the photo you want to send. But before hitting the send button, choose the pencil icon if you want to add something. You’re given the option of writing in Aa (text and white font only) or the pen icon, where you can use your stylus or finger to write or sketch, with several colors to choose from. Once you’re satisfied with your “work of art”, you can send it with the arrow button at the bottom. Weirdly enough, you can only do it with photos saved on your phone but not on the built-in “selfie” cam since the photos taken there are sent to your contact directly.

If you don’t see this feature yet on your Messenger, manually update it in your apps. And if you don’t have the Facebook Messenger app installed yet on your device, then that means you won’t be able to access your messages since Facebook has disabled already the viewing from the main app, forcing migration to the separate app. So better get it from the Google Play Store if you still want to use this feature.
