Remotr app streams PC games to your Android device

A new app has landed for Android users who are also PC gamers called Remotr. The app enables PC gamers to stream their favorite games directly to their Android smartphone or tablet anywhere they are. Remotr developers say that the app gives you the same performance and visual quality you would get if you were sitting in front of your PC playing the game.

The app does require you to download the mobile app and the Remotr streamer software from the website to install on your PC. Developers promise that the app provides smooth streaming and fast reaction times for even the most intensive games.

There are some Hardware requirements for ideal performance of the software and app.

The PC is recommended to have at least a dual-core processor. An internet connection is required. At least NVIDIA GTX 660 or better graphics are required. The Android app needs to be on a device running at least Android 4.1 or higher.

SimplyScan app offers real scanned paper effect

After the Smart Document Scanner, here's another app that can turn your phone into a mobile scanner: the SimplyScan PDF Camera Scanner. This is said to be the lightest PDF mobile document scanning app today, at least for Android, because it's very simply and easy to use. The app scans documents and automatically organizes the scanned files. It's a camera scanner, meaning you can scan any document simply by taking a photo. It can even convert an existing image already saved on your phone or tablet into PDF.

To refine the document, the app allows perspective cropping. Simply drag the corners to crop or adjust and the app will then fix the document. Presets are available to use as effects so documents would appear as if scanned on a real scanner. Because scanned docs become files, you can also upload them to the cloud for future use or sharing. You can use Google Drive, Dropbox, or other cloud apps to store your scanned files.

The SimplyScan PDF Camera Scanner app can export docs to multiple file formats like photo or PDF document or a ZIP file for multi-page documents. You can also use the Multiple PDF settings by choosing the PDF page shape, quality, orientation, and margins.

App is free for download but a Pro version is also available for only $0.99. If you upgrade to the Pro version, no watermark is added to your PDF document and multi-page documents are allowed. You can also organize files into folders and change PDF quality and size.

Undelete for Root Users updated with 64-bit support

If you have ever accidentally deleted files or deleted a file and then wished you had it back, you need an app like Undelete for Root Users. As the name says, you do need root access to be able to use the app and it was recently updated with new features. The Undelete app is a free download, but to get full functionality does require an in-app purchase.

The free version of the app is only able to restore image files. The paid upgraded version can restore other types of files as well. The latest version of the app is able to recover deleted files from any volume on an internal partition or SD card. You can recover documents, video, music, binaries, and pictures on the full version of the app. The saved files can be restored directly to Dropbox and Google Drive.

The update brings support for 64-bit operating systems, an improved MP4 parser, and fixes for crashes from user reports. A new journal scanner has been added and an improved MP3 parser as well. A new scan for individual file extensions has been added. Some fixes for major issues have been integrated into the latest version of the app including a freeze fix, various crash fixes, and an old filter icon has been restored.

This app is unable to restore all files even in the unlocked version. Some of the files may be too damaged for restore, but if the files are undamaged, you can get them all back. Again, the app does require root/superuser permissions and you have to modify the OS on your device to use the app.

Universal ADB Helper is an easy tweaking tool for newbies

Tweaking and modding your Android device usually starts out with the desire to personalize some bits and elements of your device’s Android operating system. Usually, gaining root access would be a gateway to this, usually done by connecting your device to a laptop or a PC. This is where Universal ADB Helper helps out newbies, as it has a fairly large number of tools to help out tweakers.

The app helps would-be tweakers to issue commonly-used ADB commands to their devices via a USB connection. It’s in a form of a batch file – which means it’s for Windows users only. The batch executable brings up a command line interface, but the only commands you’ll be issuing are numbers to choose which action you want to perform. ADB made easy, really.

The commands include rebooting the device in a certain mode (like recovery or safe mode), install apps through APK files, delete PIN or security pattern on a CyanogenMod-powered device, backup and restore of phone data, factory reset, flashing a custom recovery, changing the bootanimation of your device among others. Pretty nifty.

What’s cool is that the developer is adding more commands in every update. ADB — short for Android Debug Bridge — is an interface used by Android developers for testing software on their devices, but the aftermarket development community often uses it to make it easier to push files and flash images. Even experienced users need a tool that conveniently does the tasks they have to manually type out, so don’t overlook this tool for newbies. Need for Speed to charge users for gas, restricted playtime

Electronic Arts is set to roll out this week a new mobile version of the popular car racing franchise Need for Speed for Android users, but not surprisingly and quite like car racing in the real world, EA will start charging for gas. It's not a new thing for game apps to have in-app purchase systems -- developers have to eat, don't they? But it is quite new for a high profile racing game to restrict the driving itself with an in-game resource paid for by real-world money.

Right, so what this means is -- no more reckless driving around and tearing the place up for free. The cost of causing trouble in the neighborhood is apparently a full tank of gas. Aside from the racing genre’s usual practice of charging users for the option of customizing their ride, Need for Speed shifts race gaming to a new level by requiring drivers to pay for fuel to make your car actually run. But don’t worry, if you don’t want to pay up for gas, you can always opt to wait.

As we've mentioned, in-app purchases are nothing new to Android mobile games, but there’s something about this particular version of NFS that has us quite concerned. It’s one thing to pay for avatar and car customizations, or to eliminate ads, or for top-level in-game items. But to actually pay to play, especially when you’ve already purchased the game itself, we’re wondering if that’s even right. Of course, there’s always the option to wait for the gas tank to fill, but isn’t that running counter to the game experience? With Need for Speed having us waiting, it would be very easy to just close the app and play other games, which would defeat the purpose of making a game immersive in the first place. In their defense though, other games also carry this “wait or pay” feature. Why is EA exempt from earning from this strategy?

It’s probably an accepted fact that game developers will try to make the most out of their creations, but having gamers pay up or wait to play may be going a tad too far. Or maybe EA just wants this particular mobile gaming experience to be more realistic. If that be the cause though, would they start charging gamers for road taxes, driver’s license fees, and other what-nots the DMV would have us pay as well? By then, it's going to be too much like real life driving, and the streets of Need for Speed worlds would probably be devoid of cars and drivers by then.

Skyward is a simple and complicated one-tap arcade game

No, Skyward is not your favorite ship on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, but rather a new Android arcade game that seems simple at first glance, and maybe a few levels in, but gets pretty difficult as it progresses (as all games should right?). It's one of the more interesting one-tap games around, drawing similarities to Monument Valley, but with a charm all its own.

In fact, Skyward is not at all similar to Monument Valley, except that they're both minimalist and gorgeous-looking. The goal of the game is to keep a spinning disc from biting the dust by making it land on a solid area, which will make you progress to the next level. When the disc stops, you get a new spinning one and you have to do the same. Oh, and you get to "save" the spinning disc with just one tap. Sounds simple enough yes? Well, of course, at first, it is, but as the game goes on, the disc becomes smaller with each rotation and so it gets more difficult.

The developer claims that you will "reach your inner peace" through the game's one-tap-one-step game. Well, we're not sure if you really can though, because you will probably get frustrated everytime a disc will fall into oblivion as you fail to keep it grounded, so to speak. But the Escher-style labyrinths and the gameplay will definitely keep you interested, if you go for that kind of thing.

You can download Skyward for free from the Google Play Store. There are no in-app purchases available, so no need to worry for your credit card.
