How to Unroot and Relock the Google Nexus 6 on a Mac – XDA TV

nexus6relockmac

In the past, XDA Developer TV Producer droidmodd3rx has shown you how to root and unlock the bootloader on a Nexus device. This process used the WugFresh Toolkit to Unlock than Relock and Unroot and Root. That required a Windows PC. People have asked for an easy way to do this with a Mac computer.

Droidmodd3rx presents instructions on how to remove root access and relock the bootloader of your Google Nexus 6 using tools from the XDA Developers Forums. The process is painless and pretty easy. Next week we will have video that shows you how to unlock the bootloader and root a Nexus 6 using your Mac as well. So, take a moment and check this video out.

Highly Functional Android 5.0 Build Lands on Samsung Galaxy S Plus

Galaxy S Plus

Released in 2011, the Samsung Galaxy S Plus is one heck of an old device. Despite this, it remains privy to a very healthy dose of aftermarket development. Although having shipped with Android 2.3, support for this device has been going strong ever since–not from Samsung, but from its users. This can be witnessed with the dual boot functionality it received, and highly functional Jellybean and Kitkat landing on the device in the form of unofficial CyanogenMod 10 and 11 builds. In the face of all this active development, one really does wonder whether there’s anything the Galaxy S Plus can’t do.

With all this said, it can at least now be said that running Android 5.0 is definitely something the device can do, thanks to the efforts of XDA Recognized Developer Christopher83 . Coming in the form of an unofficial build of CyanogenMod 12, the ROM is highly functional with almost every feature and function working as they should, including:

  • Audio

  • Receiving and making calls

  • GPS

  • Hardware sensors (Light, Orientation, Compass, Proximity, Acceleration)

  • Legacy/Virtual sensors (Gravity, Linear acceleration, Rotation vector)

  • Wifi

  • Bluetooth

  • USB mass storage

  • Camera

  • Voip video calls

  • USB/Wifi tethering

  • VSync

  • USB OTG

In fact, the only thing that’s not working is the power-off charging animation, which, if one is to be honest, can be overlooked and ignored as something that’s very minor and negligible. There are however, a few known issues, including a laggy call UI when starting or receiving calls, the camera app force closing when recording 720p videos, and some new CM apps force closing.

So, if you’re an owner of the Galaxy S Plus and can’t wait to taste Android 5.0, head over to the Galaxy S Plus CM12 thread for more information.

Samsung Galaxy S4 GPe Receives a Lollipop, OTA Captured

samsung-galaxy-s4-google-edition-what-is-it-and-how-does-it-differ-from-the-standard-s4

Just over a week ago, we talked about two Google Play Edition devices getting their Lollipop updates. HTC released updates for the One and One (M8), as well as the kernel source required by GPL licensing. Another OEM started to roll out the Android 5.0.1. Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505G should expect the OTA notification soon.

Android Lollipop was announced back in June at the Google I/O Keynote. This revision of Google’s OS brings tons of new features and completely overhauled application design. Google Play Edition devices are available to buy in Google Play Store, have the AOSP variant of Android, and are supported directly by Google.

The incremental update itself is 492 MB, and should be installed from KTU84P Android 4.4.4 version. To install it, the system partition of your device must not be modified and phone must have stock recovery installed. XDA Recognized Contributor and Archivist-in-Chief oldblue910 managed to capture the update and provided it for your sideloading pleasure. As of now, the kernel source has not been yet published by Samsung.

Samsung Galaxy S4 users who didn’t get an OTA notification and don’t want to wait any longer can visit the Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition Stock OTA URLs forum thread. All updates available for the GPE S4 are avaialable there.

8-Bit Crusaders battle to save kidnapped goddesses from the evil witches

Here is another time-waster Role-Playing Game on Android: Crusaders Quest. Watching the trailer takes me back to my childhood days of endless arcade gaming. This one, complete with the music and the pixelated graphics, will remind you of the 90s. It's a new RPG from NHN Entertainment Corp. that allows you to lead 200 heroes and defeat monsters and witches. Goal is to save the kidnapped Goddesses from the forces of evil.

These Goddesses have been kidnapped by an enemy. You're called to save a land captured by the crazy, mysterious witch who happened to trap the magical Goddesses. Choose among the hundreds of 8-bit crusaders who will journey and save them. To finish the battle, unlock their powers to finally repel the darkness.

Crusaders Quest features real-time and fast paced puzzle combat so you need to quickly match your crusaders' skill blocks. Six unique classes can be played while you can choose from over 200 unique heroes. Each one has different skills and powers that could free the kidnapped Goddesses. If the crusaders' powers are not enough, you can always unlock the powers of the Goddesses and make use of them.

Heroes are 8-bit crusaders playing on a pixelated battlefield. Don't let the graphics disappoint you because the style actually adds to the retro charm. Admit it, this game reminds you of those times when you'd spend hours and all of your money on the arcades.

Unofficial CM12 for the HTC Sensation

20130420T115408

The HTC Sensation was the first device to ship with the “brand new” Sense 3.0 back in 2011. This former flagship smartphone stayed on Ice Cream Sandwich when HTC decided to abandon it and focus on the One line. Now, the Sensation is almost four years old. Despite this, many still use it as their primary device. Development for this device is still quite active, and as a result we can see a quite functional Lollipop build.

The unofficial CyanogenMod 12 port was built by XDA Recognized Contributor shantur. The ROM is still in the testing phase, but the list of working items is quite impressive. According to developer most things, if not everything, is working. There are some reports regarding the Wi-Fi connectivity in the Middle East, but this appears to be a regional problem.

It’s always nice to see the newest version of Android running well on older devices. We wish HTC Sensation and its users at least one more Android version to try. More information about the project and download links can be found in the CM 12 for Sensation forum thread.

Use Widgets on Your Lock Screen with Widget Pager

image

To make our devices more efficient, many have turned to the use of widgets. Developers who care about their users often decide to put lots of work into making widgets an integral part of their applications and services. Widgets debuted on Android home screens, but Google later allowed users to use them on their lock screens in certain versions of the platform.

In the versions of Android that allow for lock screen widgets, you can ordinarily use only one widget per screen, which is far from perfect–especially when your device has a big screen that can house multiple widgets. To make this problem less of an issue, XDA Senior Member elesbb prepared a simple application that lets you add up to four widgets that are accessible directly from the lock screen of your device. The app creates a small square in the bottom left corner, which when pressed, opens the widget menu.

Widget Pager doesn’t require a root access. This application should work on every device with Android 4.0 or newer. The application is a nice way of enhancing the user experience because you can access all your favorite features even without unlocking your phone or tablet.

Reinvent your widgets and use them more often! Widget Pager is ready to help you with this. Head over to the Widget Pager application thread to get the latest build.

Level Up! Contest of Champions, Game of Thrones, Scrolls

The holidays are barely a stone's throw away, and game studios and publishers are warming up their engines for the upcoming season. This week has seen the release of much awaited games for mobile devices, from point and click adventures games in a grim and rather dysfunctional fantasy world, to the tapping and swiping madness with superheroes and super villains alike, to a less frantic and more thoughtful game of cards, er, scrolls. Welcome to Level Up!, Android Community's weekly games roundup for December 12, 2014.

Game of Thrones: The Adventure Game

Topping our list is Game of Thrones, from developer Telltale Games, well known for games with memorable characters and deep story lines. Set in the world of the hit HBO series, Game of Thrones puts you in the shoes of the fictional House Forrester, loyal to the Starks of the north. While the game does borrow lore and characters from the TV show and the novels, most of the characters and the plots are entirely new, giving players the freedom to make a name for themselves in Westeros.

Marvel Contest of Champions

New York Comic Con's anticipated game has finally arrived! Marvel and Kabam have worked together to bring a game that is not a tie-in to any movie. At least not yet. Set in the Collector's makeshift arenas, players take on the role of the unnamed Summoner as he or she fights against Kang the Conqueror over the ISO Sphere, an object of immense power that no villain, such as Kang the Konqueror, should get their hands on. Build up your team of supes, both heroes and villains, to thwart Kang's plans. And while doing so, enjoy the console-quality graphics.

Mojang's Scrolls

Card games are nothing new but Mojang, famed creators of Mnecraft, still want to bring something new to the table. Or board rather. Combining the best of card and board games, Scrolls gives you control over 350 fully animated scrolls, or cards, as you pit them against AI or other players in a board game. Perhaps more interesting than the game itself, it is the promised balance of in-game purchases, which are limited to prevent abuse and pay-to-win scenarios, which could make or break Scrolls' reputation.

And if you're in the market for a more traditional kind of TCG, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Generation, which has just landed on Google Play Store, has you covered.

Updates

More than just new games, a few of fan favorites have also seen a fresh coat of paint this week. 2D side-scrolling Minecraft-like Terraria gets a massive update worth 1,000 new items. That's quite a load of new stuff that includes 30 new block types, 100 new enemies, four new bosses, 8 new NPCs, and 15 new pets. An update hits the retro-ish racing game Asphalt Overdrive bringing new cars and a new mode to this Asphalt spin-off. Take your pick between a white Lykan Hypersport and a blue Renault Alpine and ride off into the sunset with the inappropriately named Joyride Race mode, where you can drive and drive and drive until you die of boredom. Or hit something. Angry Birds Star Wars gets another installment, building up on the growing interest behind the upcoming seventh episode. No need for intros here, Revenge of the Pork definitely smells fishy. Or porky, in this case.

Coming Soon

The year isn't over yet but we already have something to look forward to next year. Ubisoft and classic game "porters" DotEmu are joining forces to bring one of the hit strategy games to Android. Be sure to mark your calendars for January 29, 2015 when Heroes of Might and Magic III lands on Google Play Store. Transformers fans cry for joy or cry in pain, TRANSFORMERS: Battle Tactics is coming to Android next year, no date announced yet. A tactics game for Android is nothing out of the ordinary. But super deformed/chibi Autobots and Decepticons? Hey, at least it's the classic Generation 1 roster and not a certain director's abomination.

Be sure to check out our Gaming tag portal for other new games and updates you might have missed this week.
