Enterchained lets you hack and slash your way to glory

Little did General Maximus Decimus (yes, we know he's fictional) know that his iconic line "Are you not entertained?" will one day be repurposed by game developers into something more, well, entertaining. This new hack and slash type of game is called Enterchained, and just like in the movie Gladiator, you are the source of entertainment for the bloody thirsty audience at the Colloseum where you have to fight way your way to freedom, but this time with a twist.



The extra challenge laid on you is that you have to fight the merciless soldiers while you're chained (hence, the name, get it?) to a companion, that is actually controlled by AI. And your enemies are not polite soldiers who will wait their turn to kill you. They will attack you all at the same time, sometimes alone, sometimes in packs and always with a variety of weapons. But don't worry, you and your partner will also get to use various paraphernalia, including the chain that binds you, to hack at them, throw sharp, pointy objects and trip them as they go around you.


You will be able to unlock different kinds of weapons as you go along. There are 45 items up for grabs, including The Needle, a Spiked Chain Helm, The Mammoth, The Flying Horror, among others. You can mix and match the items, depending on your strategy and what kind of enemies you're facing. Aside from the button mashing joy of just hacking and slashing, the game also has some quests for you to fulfill, just in case you get tired of all the blood and swords.




Make no mistake, your mobile screen will turn red a lot of times (if you do things right) so if you're averse to violence or if you don't want your kids exposed to this kind of stuff, keep away. The simplistic graphics lessens the effect of the violence, but it is still bloody. You can get Enterchained from the Google Play Store for only $0.99 and with no other in-app purchases needed.

Sony Xperia Z4 flagship phone details leak

Sony's current top of the line smartphone is the Xperia Z3 and the device is just now getting ready to hit market. In fact, there are still pre-order deals out there on the Z3, one of which will get you a free PS4 game. Despite the fact that the Z3 is just launching now, Sony is already looking ahead to next year and the Z4.



Some details on the Xperia Z4 smartphone have leaked and one of the interesting things to come with the leak is word that this will be the only flagship device launched in2015. We are used to Sony launching two flagship smartphones each year.


The Z4 is tipped to launch early next year, likely in March at MWC in Spain. If rumors are accurate, the Z4 will have a Snapdragon 810 processor with eight cores and support 64-bit OS. Internal storage will be 32GB and it will certainly have storage expansion with memory cards.


Mated with that octa-core CPU will be 4GB of RAM and the device is said to be the first Xperia smartphone to feature LTE Cat 6 connectivity along with Bluetooth 4.1. The camera will get an IMX220 20.7MP sensor with a curved Exmor RS CMOS sensor. The display is tipped to be a 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 unit. It's worth noting that the source of this leak also leaked details on the Z3 compact that were accurate.

Google’s My Tracks: Android Wear support, Drive sharing

The latest update for Google's tracking app My Tracks has brought with it a few major changes and improvements, particularly in the support for Android Wear smartwatches as well as the way you share your tracks with relevant people. Now your wearables running on Android's platform for smartwatches can use the app to track how many steps you've made during the day or the distance you've run during your early morning workout.



If you have any of the devices that are using Android Wear, namely, the Motorola 360, LG G Watch, Samsung Gear Live, ASUS Zenwatch, the recently released Sony Smartwatch 3 and the upcoming LG G Watch R, then you'll be able to use Google's own tracking app to monitor your physical activity. However, it doesn't mean that the app can be used on your smartwatch on its own, since none of the devices mentioned above have built-in GPS in their systems. Instead, you use it together with the phone that is connected to your smartwatch to start, pause, restart and stop the tracking activity. So it means when you're walking or running, you don't need to take out your smartphone just to control the app.


Another major change to the update is that you can now only share your tracks and progress through Google Drive, and not anymore to other apps. You can either make it public so everyone knows what a conscientious runner you are, or you can just choose to share your activities with the people you want to share it with. A work-around to sharing it through other apps is just copying the URL (make sure it's not in private mode) and then pasting it on your Facebook or Twitter or wherever you want to announce it.


You can manually get the update through APK download if your device hasn't yet updated it automatically. Or if you don't have My Tracks yet but would like to use it now with your Android Wear smartwatch, you can get it from the Google Play Store for free.

Gmail 5.0 app wants all your email accounts in one place

One of the most popular apps that Google has is the Gmail app on the Android platform. The cool thing about Gmail is that not only can you access and use Gmail from the web app; you can also add other accounts to the email service and manage them all for the web interface.



Google is now talking a bit about Gmail 5.0, the latest version of the email app. The new version of the app is designed to handle all email with the Gmail app, just as you can from the desktop application. With the update, Gmail can handle email from accounts on Yahoo or Outlook among others.

Switching between multiple accounts will be done using a simply drop down menu or using a swipe. The app is also getting new round icons and an updated overall look.


Among the updates to the look of the app are refreshed icons and more. Google has been updating all of its apps to go with the new material design philosophy and it's finally Gmail's turn. It's unclear when Gmail 5.0 will launch.

Ace Ferrera: a simple, funny journey through space

With the recent success of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie and also the penchant for throwback cartoons from the 80s and 90s, a game like Ace Ferrera and the Dino Menace has come just in the nick of time. The adventure game is set in space, has a wickedly funny (and punny) sense of humor and a simple enough mission that will keep you entertained and not so frustrated as you play it. Oh, and did we mention that the great villain in this piece is a talking cat with dinosaur soldiers?



In the game, you are a military cadet on a very important role: to fly in the Discordia, the flagship of the Proton Riders who are a bunch of misfit and weird superpilots. They are the only ones standing between mankind and evil dinosaurs bent on taking over the planet. You will start as an intern and work your way up until you become a galactic hero and a respected member of the Proton Riders. You get to launch sorties, ride through dangerous minefields, go on special missions and attack ships who want to destroy the earth. There are 23 different missions and five different kinds of ships that you can master.


While the graphics and action leave much to be desired, as compared to other adventure games, the look and feel of it is keeping to the 80s feel that it wants to evoke. The scripted dialogue scenes are funny and full of tropes you might recognize from yesteryears and this might just make up for the simplistic nature of the game. If you're not familiar with space combat games, then this is a perfect way to start getting into them.


Ace Ferrera and the Dino Menace is available for download from the Google Play Store for only $2.29. There are no in-app purchases, so you don't have to worry if kids start playing it on your device. They just might not get the humor as it is before their time, but they could probably finish the game in one sitting.

Android TV ADT-1 can sideload version Android 5.0

Android TV, one of those niches announced back in June at Google I/O 2014 where Android plans to branch out, is also getting an update to Android 5.0 which it will most likely roll out OTA. But not just to everyone yet. We feel you when you say that it’s stressing you out waiting for the OTA update – we’ve all been there. So if you’re up for it, you can actually sideload the official update to your ADT-1 right now.



The steps aren’t as intuitive as just waiting for the OTA update – but if you don’t want to wait, then having the update ASAP should be an added incentive for you to go through what might seem a complicated set of steps. The process involves downloading the official update from Google, which they have already made available. Then you will be required to boot to “Recovery Mode”. For Android smartphones, this might be an easy thing to do, but this will be what might scare you off at first. Don’t worry, there are a lot of ways to do it. After that, it’s just a matter of typing a command and waiting for the update to finish.

The aesthetic changes aren’t major, there won’t be anything in Android 5.0 that will need you to learn to do something new. The biggest change? Android 5.0 lowers the running temperature of your box from almost melting the plastic to just a few degrees above room temp. That, if any, should be the reason why you should get this update ASAP.

HTC Android 5.0 Lollipop update timeline tipped

Android fans were thrilled to hear earlier this month that Android L was ready for primetime. After the OS was deemed ready to launch by Google, the next thing that Android smartphone and tablet users want to know is when they can get their hands on the OS for their device. What is claimed to be the timeline for HTC to upgrade their devices to Android 5.0 has leaked.



As with any leak, you need a grain of salt with this one. It’s also worth noting that some of these devices are reportedly still being evaluated for the update so there is the chance some of the HTC devices listed won't get the update at all.


According to the rumor, the first devices to get the Android 5.0 update will be the HTC One M8 and HTC One M7. GPE based devices will get the update in late November or early December with Sense devices getting the update January-February. The Desire EYE, HTC One M8 dual SIM, One M7 dual SIM, One E8, and One E8 dual SIM along with the Butterfly 2 getting Lollipop in the January-March timeframe.


In March-April, the HTC One Mini 2 and Desire 816 are expected to get the upgrade. In the March-May timeframe the HTC One Max, One Mini, and Butterfly S are rumored to get the latest flavor of Android. Desire devices based on MTK processors are under evaluation according to the source. Not too long ago Motorola's Android L upgrade plans surfaced.
