Samsung Exynos 7 Octa 20nm processor breaks cover

Samsung has rolled out a new processor that will eventually find its way under the hood of Android devices. The new processor falls into the line of Exynos SoC products that we are already familiar with, but brings improved performance to the mix. The processor is the Exynos 7 Octa.

As the Octa in the name suggests, this processor has eight cores inside with four Coretex-A57 cores and four Cortex-A53 cores. The new processor is also one of the few to be made using a 20nm process.

Samsung's new processor is a 64-bit unit, which means it will work very well with Android Lollipop since that new OS is 64-bit compatible. Inside the new processor, those A57 cores are the high-performance parts of the chip and the A53 cores are the low power side of the things.

Other features of the processor include Heterogeneous Multi Processing (HMP) allowing any combination of the cores to be operated while the others are turned off to save power. Right now, we aren’t sure when the first device using this new processor will turn up.

Add Charts to Your Application with HelloCharts

HelloCharts Charts Library

Charts give you a way to represent your data in a clear and concise manner. This becomes even more important on mobile devices, where screen sizes require you to provide your data in a straight forward manner, and users expect a simple representation instead of an overwhelming table.

There are several libraries that allow you to use charts in your applications already, but HelloCharts by XDA Forum Member lech0 is a new, easy to use library that supports several chart types. It also sets itself apart with quite a few features. As you would expect, it supports line, column and pie charts, as well as bubble charts. It also allows users to zoom, scroll and fling charts to focus on the area they’re interested in. Developers can even change the chart animations and customize them to fit their taste.

HelloCharts also comes with “preview charts” (shown to the right), an excellent type of charts to use on mobiles. This type allows you to show an overview of the chart as well as a separate, detailed viewport. The full chart (overview) is displayed at the bottom, and a smaller, detailed region is shown at the top. Users can then easily select a range or zoom in to a particular area in the overview chart, and only see that area on the detailed chart.

Additionally, HelloCharts offers combo and dependency charts (animation to the left). This means you combine multiple charts, optionally connecting one to the other. For example, tapping a month’s bar could then show you a weekly chart at the top of the screen.

HelloCharts is compatible with Android 2.2 and higher (API 8), so if you’re looking to.integrate charts into your application, head over to the HelloCharts forum thread now to get started!

Nexus 5 hangs around after Nexus 6 launch

This has been a big week for Android fans with Android Lollipop having been rolled out this week and the new Nexus 6 smartphone that landed from Google. Typically, when Google rolls out a new Nexus device, the old one disappears only to be seen in the support pages and on eBay.

This time out, that doesn't appear to be the case. Early on, the Nexus 5 was listed as out of stock signaling that the Nexus 6 was coming. Once the Nexus 6 was unveiled, we assumed that the previous model was gone forever, and then something unexpected happened. The Nexus 5 came back in stock and is still prominently listed.

We don’t think this is due to some sort of bulk supply leftover that never sold Google wants to get rid of. We are thinking that this is more likely a play by Google to leave the Nexus 5 on the market and make it an entry-level device for fans of Nexus who might not have the budget for the latest and greatest.

Google refreshed the device's homepage, it is listed between the Nexus Player, and Nexus 6 on the top menu of the site with a buy now button. The 32GB version of the smartphone can be had for $399.99.

Feed this pug real food and he’d go Nomnomnom….

Ever tried feeding a pug? It’s one hungry dog you might run out of food. It gets really hungry you have to feed it fast. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you download this new game aptly called Nomnomnom.

Developed by Sqaurefrog Games, Nomnomnom is a game of speed. You simply need to feed the hungry pug with real food as fast as you can. Don’t feed it the junk or else the little pug will choke and die. The game is fairly easy but it’s confusing at first because you can’t figure out if some of the objects are actually food or junk.

Tap on the screen to open and close the mouth of the pug to eat the food or refuse junk. For lunch, the pug can eat meat, chicken, hotdogs, popsicle, cheese, sushi, or donut. Avoid eating diskette, crescent wrench, bottle of medicine, bomb, hammer, and sharp objects like the ninja star. Never eat those bits or else the pug will die.

Be careful that you don't overfeed the pug though because you know, it's bad for the liver.

Preorder an Xperia Z3 and get DriveClub for PS4 free

As if the Sony Xperia Z3 itself wasn't already an incentive enough for you, Sony is offering a free digital copy of the racing game Driveclub for PS4 when you purchase their latest flagship device. The game, which has garnered mostly positive reviews since it was released last year, will be given as a bonus if you buy the smartphone within a certain period. The Xperia Z3 will be pre-selling from October 14-28 before it becomes officially available through T-Mobile by October 29.

The mechanics are simple enough. When you purchase your Xperia Z3 during the pre-selling phase, you can redeem your digital copy of Driveclub once you receive your unit. Go to the Sony Mobile site, enter the information asked, upload pictures of your sales receipt as well as the device's IMEI number which can be found on the box itself. They will then email you a promo code so you will be able to claim the game. But you need to redeem it by November 14 and you will receive the promo code not later than November 21.

The Xperia Z3 has revived interest in Sony as a contender in the Android market. Its 5.2-inch full HD screen has been enhanced with the Bravia and Triluminos tech. It also boasts as the furst smartphone (so far) that has ISO 12800 sensitivity which means you can use it in low-light or underwater situations. The 20.7 megapixel camera also has a 25mm wide angle Sony G Lens which mobile photography enthusiasts will find very handy. It can also be used with the PS4 as it has the Remote Play feature, which is probably why they're giving you a Driveclub game so you can try it out.

T-Mobile will start selling the Xperia Z3 by October 29, offering it at $630 for the full retail price. You can also get it at $26.25 per month for 2 years with zero down if you're a T-Mobile subscriber. Those who pre-order the smartphone will get their device before the actual release.

Nexus 6 to arrive on T-Mobile this November

Fresh from the announcement from Google of the new Nexus devices and Android 5.0 or Lollipop, T-Mobile announced today that the Nexus 6 smartphone will be coming to the network by November. Already, people are buzzing about the new device, as it is probably the first Google phone that can be called a phablet and it is also the first Nexus device to be produced by Motorola. It will also be running on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop (darn, we were hoping for Lemon Meringue Pie) with its Material Design look.

Aside from its features, like the almost 6-inch 5.96-inch Quad HD display and the 2.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 which will run the device, one thing that might excite T-Mobile subscribers about the device is that it will have WiFi calling capabilities when the carrier's WiFi Un-leashed will be, well, unleashed early 2015. Thanks to enhancements in the Lollipop, a simple OTA update next year will allow you to make voice calls through your Internet connection.

The Nexus 6 will be available in either 32 or 64 GB internal storage options (RAM is still not specified but will probably be at either 2 or 3). For mobile photography enthusiasts, the device has a 13-megapixel main camera, a (not so exciting) 2-megapixel front facing camera, f/20 aperture, Optical Image Stabilization, 4K video recording and an LED flash ring. In terms of battery life, it has a 3.220 mAh battery and a Turbo Charge feature that will make it last for 6 hours of use at just 15 minutes of charging.

nexus-6-0

By November 12, T-Mobile subscribers will be able to get the Nexus 6 at $0 down or $27.08/month on a 24 month installment plan. If you're too excited to find out if you can pre-order it already or you just want to receive an email reminding you that it will soon be available (maybe there will be a countdown!}, you can sign up for updates on the Nexus 6 page on the T-Mobile site.

Androidify update: animated GIFs, more sharing options

If you've ever felt like the Android mascot should have a version more like you, then you probably have been enjoying the app Androidify, where you can make caricatures of the green robot to look more like you or any other character. The newest update from Google makes the app even more fun by letting you add even more animation, turning the images into GIFs, and even giving a chance for your creations to be featured in a TV commercial or YouTube ad.

The latest update now gives you more options to choose from, including new costumes, accessories and images. There are also now 25 new animations that you can make your characters do, including laughing, dancing, falling asleep, rocking out, cheering, etc. Not only that, you can save them as animated GIFs and send as emoticons in your text or chats, to make conversations more interesting. We're pretty sure, someday, we'll all be talking without using words anymore, just all the cool emoticons, stickers and animated GIFs that can sometimes say more than just letters. But we digress. Yes, the Androidify animated characters in messages are cool.

If you want other people to see your brilliant characters, animted or otherwise, you can upload them to the Gallery in Androidify.com. Google will be choosing the best ones to feature in their TV commercials or YouTube videos. (Hmmm, maybe you should ask for "royalties" if the ads become viral or something) The update also brings improved UI as well as translations in Japanese, Korean, French and German.

The app is already being updated (if you haven't seen it yet) as we speak. If you haven't yet discovered the magical world of Androidify, you can get the app for free from the Google Play Store.
