Smart Hide Calculator is a Calculator That Stealthily Hides Your Files

SHC

Some of the more popular file-hiding apps on the Android market right now are pretty good at their jobs, that is hiding photos, videos, documents, and such. What many of them aren’t very good at doing is hiding themselves. More often than not, such apps have their very own, very obvious app icon and name in the app drawer. Or in the case of the more ‘elaborate’ apps, there may be a ‘dummy’ UI with an icon of a shady looking character in the corner that you must press.

So rather than making it obvious that you have things to hide, XDA Forum Member IDSprofile created an app called Smart Hide Calculator, which not only hides files, but also hides itself. It takes on the innocent disguise of a fully-functioning calculator; has ‘Calculator’ as its name, as well as a matching app icon in the app drawer; and a calculator UI that will rouse absolutely no suspicion.

However, by tapping a pre-determined pin number and the equals button, Smart Hide Calculator reveals its true self: a fully fledged app that hides and unhides files, and freezes and unfreezes apps. One must keep in mind that root access is required to freeze apps. As of right now, Smart Hide Calculator is still in its beta phase, and according to IDSprofile, a host of new features and functions will be implemented in the future.

So if you want to give this app a go, or have a suggestion for a future update, make your way over to the application thread for more details and download.

Nvidia Tegra K1 Hands On at CES 2014 – XDA Developer TV

nvidiabooth

Nvidia has officially brought an end to the “cores race” in two ways with the release of the Tegra K1. By releasing a device with “192 cores,” Nvidia not only wins in the marketing game, but they also make the numbers game a joke. Ultimately, it’s not about the number of cores. Rather, it’s about the power of the processor. But marketing numbers aside, the Tegra K1 is very powerful.

XDA Developer TV Producer Jordan was on site at International CES 2014 and got a chance to catch a demonstration of the Tegra K1′s power. Jordan sat down and talked with the folks at Nvidia. And in this video, we get to see the power of the K1 through various applications on the Nvida Tegra K1 reference platform. Check out this video to learn more about the revolutionary Nvidia K1.

CyanogenMod cLock Backported to Android 3.0 Honeycomb as Crius

dOU0s5H

Users of the wildly popular CyanogenMod ROM will no doubt be familiar with the cLock widget, a clean and elegant way of displaying the time and date, weather, and calendar events. Of course, there are also some top-notch alternatives for those running other ROMs that can be found in the Play Store, as well as in the form of a port for any Android 4.2 + device.

Unfortunately, however, users with older devices seem to be missing out, as the aforementioned options are simply not compatible. Well, the good news is that this is no longer the case for running Android 3.0+, as XDA Recognized Developer EatHeat has backported most of CyanogenMod’s cLock functions and features.

The port so far only supports time, date, and weather, with the calendar function still yet to be added. It also retains the extensive customization cLock users will definitely be familiar with including:

  • custom colors for clock elements

  • custom colors for weather elements

  • bold the hour or minutes of the clock

  • show or hide the alarm

  • show or hide your location

EatHeat advises users to install a home launcher that supports widget resizing, and notes that a reboot may be required on some devices after installing the widget for the first time if the widget does not appear in the widget picker.

So if you can’t wait to experience cLock on your Android 3.0+ device, check out the original thread to get started.

At the 2014 International CES, Sony released two phones. The phones are similar and share similar names. These devices are the Sony Xperia Z1S and Xperia Z1 Compact. The Xperia Z1S is locked to T-Mobile to try and help Sony’s US market penetration, while the Xperia Z1 Compact is, well, more compact.

XDA Developer TV Producer Jordan was on site and got his hands on the Xperia triplets: the Z1, Z1S, and Z1 Compact. Jordan sat down and talked with the folks and Sony. And in this video, he shares what he learned, while showing off the two new devices and how they all share basically the same base design. Check out this video to see what the newest Xperia devices look like.
