Xiaomi’s App Store marks 10B downloads, set to go international

China-based manufacturer Xiaomi is on a real high these days after the announcement that they have surpassed Samsung as the manufacturer with the third largest shipping volume in Q3 of 2014. To cap that off, Xiaomi’s app market – the Mi App Store – is celebrating its 10 billionth download and the outfit is planning to go international with the store.

The Mi App Store is the default app store for Xiaomi devices, especially on MIUI operating system versions (that is, the tweaked Android operating system put out by Xiaomi). You can feel the push of the company for consumers to use the Mi App Store, as shown in the roundabout process you need to install the more standard Google Play Store (from experience).

Be that as it may, Xiaomi is hyping on the store’s popularity in China, as they claim stats of 50 million downloads per day and a total revenue of almost USD$60 million divided among developers from the period of January to October 2014. Pretty nice numbers there.

As a response, Xiaomi has put up an international site where developers from other countries can submit their apps. There is also a plan to launch the Mi App Store internationally, to cater to “Mi fans all over the world”. We will have to wait and see what becomes of these plans. Watch this space.
