One of the most popular custom recoveries for Android devices is the Team Win Recovery Project, or better known to Android tweakers and modders alike as just TWRP. The group, led by XDA recognized developers “Dees_Troy” and “bigbiff”, has come out with a new major release compiled as version 2.8 which brings lots of new features and goodies to all and sundry.
The first thing you will notice from the changelog – which has a lot of new stuff – is the new native implementation of the C++ based MTP (Media Transfer Protocol). MTP is known for its capability to transfer various media files to and from portable devices. This makes transferring files from storage to emulated drives easier from within TWRP.
There is also the new feature of executing ADB commands from within the recovery, something that could not be done before. And with the release and rising popularity of smartwatches and other such wearable devices, TWRP has also made sure that it is compatible with most of the smaller screens found in smartwatches and the like.
